I am filling out the UGA application right now and I am having trouble with this question: “Are you required to work to supplement family income?” I am technically not required too, but I have two jobs and I use that money to pay for all my own gas, my own clothes, and essentially everything I do in my free time. Anyways, the question is just somewhat vague and I was wondering what I should answer. Thankyou!
It’s not vague at all. Can you imagine someone being sufficiently poor that they are required to work to supplement the family income? It sounds like you are NOT required to work to supplement family income.
Thank you for your response but the question definitely is vague. Where does one explicitly draw the line between supplementing family income and just helping their family out with paying for things. There is definitely a grey area.
If you have to work for your family to eat or pay rent, that’s “required.” If you’re working for spending money, it’s not.
IF your family could NOT afford to pay for YOUR gas, clothes then YES you are “required” to work.
In that case you ARE supplementing family income by paying for expenses that they cant afford to pay.
Thank you @austinmshauri for your clarification!!
Thanks @menloparkmom, that is a good way to look at it.
