Area Rugs for the Room

My d has been assigned to Shafer!

Can anyone tell us with some confidence what size area rug my d needs?

Ummmm – is this a dorm at a particular school? If so, you should post there.

Oops, sorry, thought I did – can the moderator’s delete this thread? Thanks…

In the meantime, I’ve determined that the room dimensions are 12’ x 14’, if anyone wants to speculate what size area rug would be appropriate.

possibly a 6X9 depending on how the furniture works out. If you go much bigger the beds or desks might sit partially on the rug. It might get in the way of desk chairs moving in and out.

Just a thought, but here’s what I did in my entryway. I bought four good-sized throw rugs with a subtle pattern in them, all same size and color. They are washable and have a nonskid back so no need for a rug pad. I put them down side by side (two and two, in a rectangle) with no spaces between. You have to look closely to see that it is not all one rug. Much easier to keep clean than one rug as they can be shaken out outdoors and eventually washed. Also would be much easier to transport to the dorm.

Other than a small one to step on when getting out of bed, I’d avoid rugs altogether. Stuff gets spilled, dirt from outside gets ground in, dust accumulates, roommates can be slobby and lazy about cleaning. Much easier to sweep the floor periodically and swab it before each break. And if anyone has allergies, rugs are an especially bad idea. D’s dorms have wall to wall carpet, and I can’t even imagine what kind of crud lurks in the fibers and the padding.
