I’ll thank you now, @scout59. That was great! =D>
Hers was the first LPM album by a singer that my parents brought home with our new Hi-Fi in 1967. Admired her for keeping Detroit close to her heart (and never being a grand-stander). My absolute favorite Aretha song; "Until You Come Back to Me,’ written by Stevie Wonder.
LOVE that video. Thank you.
Sad to hear about Aretha. Great woman. Great video. Kind of eerie since we just lost Matt “Guitar” Murphy in June.
Such sad news. She has been in declining health for some time. Truly a legend and the soundtrack of our lives. A gracious lady who gave back so much to her community and to young singers
One of my favorite Detroit newscasters, Evrod Cassimy, is close with Aretha Franklin. He broke the news during the early morning newscast yesterday, and he was holding back tears. He just posted that Stevie Wonder & Rev. Jesse Jackson visited her in Detroit today. Friends are saying their goodbyes. It brings back memories of saying goodbye to my mom …
Aretha, I’m saying a little prayer for you.
This one is simply incredible. It’s something I regularly rewatch:
Just got a notification that she died this morning.
RIP.
Her music and memory will stay strong. <3
I don’t know if this is national but I’m an hour from Detroit and our tv stations have the news on special report.
It’s been live on CNN for awhile now.
RIP Aretha. You will be missed, but your music will live on forever.
Sad morning. RIP.
I was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday where they have a terrific exhibit on Aretha. Folks were definitely taking extra time at that one on Monday.
She sure is a legend…and will be missed.
So sad Stevie Wonder stopped by to say goodbye to her the other day.
LOVE her. RIP
I’ve been watching local news on and off this morning/early afternoon. A few local newspeople were having a hard time holding it together when reporting on her passing.
The world lost a star but honestly, around here, it feels like we lost a friend.
Truly remarkable how much musical talent came out of Detroit in the 1960s. And Aretha was the greatest of them all.
Just saw that ABC’s 20/20 show tonight (Aug. 16) will be the full hour on Aretha.
Thank you both @scout59 and @Consolation for those clips. I am shedding tears watching the Kennedy center video. Also makes me so aware of how our country has changed in three years.
