Another powerhouse soon to be gone. So sad

My thoughts and prayers are with the Queen of Soul - a woman who has truly earned my R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
So sorry to read this. She is a genius, one of the two or three greatest voices of her generation.
As a multi generation Detroiter, her music was a staple of my life growing up.
But more importantly (IMO) is that she is one of the few Detroiters who never abandoned her hometown. She still lives in metro Detroit and her contributions back to the area are nothing short of legendary among those of us who do community work in the Detroit area.
I hope her prominent role in the civil rights & feminists movements is never lost to history. My students are always super surprised that she was more than “just” a world famous artist.
So painfully sad to be on “death watch”.
Prayers for a peaceful passing.
Been following this all day. Peace to her. My D is at a Beyonce concert in Detroit tonight - I sort of wondered if she might pay tribute to the Queen of Soul. <3
Truly an amazing woman. My S worked for her for a time. Nothing but respect and admiration.
I can’t imagine that she wouldn’t.
Any word of what is going on? She’s not young, but certainly not OLD old.
A true legend.

Three masterful songs from The Queen of Soul
I’ve been so sad since I heard the news earlier today. Aretha is truly a legend. I saw her in concert in the early '80s when I was home from college. My parents were in the middle of a contentious separation/divorce and I took my younger brother to the Budweiser Superfest at the Cotton Bowl for a little sibling bonding time. Aretha put on a show as did Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and many others. We stopped that night on the way home for diner food and joked about how we would tell our kids about that concert. It was an amazing show.
My brother died in 2008 and when I finally started to process my grief, I realized I had no one to share that experience with anymore. Praying with her family, friends and fans tonight.
News reports say she is down to 86 lbs. What a loss to the music community.
News says its pancreatic cancer. Cruel disease.
(side note: Beyonce has dedicated her concert in Detroit tonight to Aretha saying “she has changed all our lives”)
R.E.S.P.E.C.T
If you created a Mount Rushmore of soul singers, the first three faces would be Aretha Franklin.
I recently told some friends Aretha was the one artist that I really wanted to see in concert and hadn’t. Sending out prayers of peace for an amazing lady.
She is truly a legend. She has denied rumors that she has been sick for many years, but I could tell she hasn’t been well. My prayers that her suffering will be short lived.
News said she is on home hospice.
This makes me so sad. I always think of the younger Aretha singing “Think” in the Blues Brothers movie and how that always makes me smile.
Is it okay to post YouTube videos? Because y’all need to watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vet6AHmq3_s
