Argh...why can't I find pants that look good?

Spanx makes me miserable.

I am glad to see the curvy styles come into fashion. Women are all different shapes and sizes but I think we deserve to have clothes that fit all of us.

EPTR, I’m not much taller than you. When I tell my coworker at work how much I actually weight, they look at me with disbelieve. So since I was in college to now my bones have gotten heavier is my explanation.

My problem is different than yours but I too have great difficulty finding pants that fit. I have a long torso, and ever since they started making pants with a lower rise the “in” fashion, it has been horrible—there is no way I can think about sitting down or bending over unless I want everything exposed to the world…

I love it when more retro styles come into fashion with higher waists and wider legs; a high waist tends to just look normal on me, and when I find pants like this I just buy a bunch and hoard them to get me through the lean years! :-)

The other brand with a higher waist, and a decent cut is Gloria Vanderbilt. They sell them at Costco for all of $16.99 a pair. My NYDJ are my favorite, but the Gloria’s are a very close second. They are a higher cut jean…but not too high. You can get a long length, petite or regular too, I think.

Conmama, I have a friend built like you and needs to look professional but not overly dressy and says she has found the perfect pants. She recommends them to everyone and many of THEM now swear by them. I am not built like this (I guess I would need to go join a gym and grow several inches) but 10 women in agreement is something. They are NY & Co. 7th Avenue. Not high end, and affordable and they come in several shades and sizes.

http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/prod/pants/7th-avenue/7th-avenue-superstretch-bootcut-pant-average/A-prod1640020/#.VFUZDMk9H0k

ETA: I just reread and see that you don’t like lots of stretch. But like I said, these ladies all swear they will never wear anything else now.

Another vote for Not Your Daughters Jeans. Cut for grownups. Pricier but worth it. I’ve also had good luck with Donna Karen New York (DKNY.)

Thumper, I used to wear Gloria Vanderbilt when I was younger, but it was pricey then.

Thumper is right-Gloria Vanderbilt jeans are inexpensive and come in at least three lengths, and up to I think 24 at Costco. I also see them at Ross (a discount store) quite often. What I love about them is that the peitie length is actually short enough for me. In some brands petites are still to long. They seem to wear well and don’t shrink much when washed. They keep their shape unlink some jeans with stretch built into them, and come in several denim washes but also in khaki and some colors. I have 3 or 4 pair.

Gloria Vanderbilt comes in a variety of denim colors, and also cordoroy. The cords should be hitting Costco…about now. They are a nice pinwale cordoroy. I have them in several colors for the winter.

And really $16.99? Plus if you don’t like them…its Costco…you return them.

^^^Definitely try that J.Crew pixie pant for the legging/boot look. The heavier fabric and the back zip are flattering to the butt!

Lee jeans may work well for the body type originally mentioned. Nice price point.

I like DKNY jeans

She has several cuts in nice, dark wash that fit well for a curvier type. They are reasonably priced, I’ve found. I have some skinny jeans and boot cut.

I just looked them up - the Soho skinny and Soho boot cut - I have a plain dark wash. I have 2 more pair I think one is listed as a “legging” but it’s just a really skinny jean and one is something else to be determined.

They come in 3 lengths as well.

@Gourmetmom‌, would the pixie pants be “young” enough for a 24 year old? They look great on the model, but the pictures of them alone have an odd puckering on the waist area.

Saintfan, DKNY was my go to jeans brand several years ago. Then the stores seem to disappear them, grrr. Might have still had them in the Seattle stores. Now I think they’re reappearing again, but I haven’t been jeans shopping just lately.

EPTR, I am 5’1" and curvy also and have the hardest time finding pants and jeans that fit well. But like Deborah T said, I found a great pair of dark blue Lee jeans that fit perfectly. I only wish I would have bought an extra pair because I hate that most jeans sit way too low for my comfort.

Those are cute sseamom. They look like the ones I buy at Loft. I think the Marissa is the one that fits me. And the curvy cut. I know I have seen New York and Co. in stores somewhere. Is it Marshalls?

I googled and they are on sale at Macy’s online right now. I have found them at Marshall’s. (the DKNY)

I agree that it’s hard to find pants these days. Sure, my body is different that it was when I was younger. But the 10 year old pants still fit and look ok. n the stores I just don’t like the dropped waits, clingy styles. Another limiting factor for me is the need for a pocket to hold my cellphone.

Frankly it surprises me that so many women in the 21st century are willing to wear spanx. To me, it’s too much of a flashback to the girdle era.

Ann Taylor and Talbot’s both have different fits for body types. I shop their outlets and pay around $35-40 for each pair. I just can’t dry them in the dryer since petites fit me the best and are just long enough.
