conmama, I shop Yoox for deeply discounted Armani and Akris pieces. What does not fit goes back. Those brands cost $$$, but the difference in quality makes a huge difference.

@GA2012MOM - I bought the Pixie pant for my 22 yr old D, and she wears them all the time. She’s has very slim thighs and completely flat tummy (unlike me). No puckering anywhere on either of us…the fabric is very smooth and heavier weight than most leggings.

@Gourmetmom , I have decided to get her a pair for Christmas after reading all the reviews but people are mixed on whether to order true size or one down. I think she would like them fitted but not super tight…which would you recommend?

haven’t checked lately, but Kohl’s used to carry Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (and pants?).
Macy’s Style and Co. Jeans are flattering to my hips and rear, and I love the price, especially when they are on sale or clearance. In fact, a couple of years back when I was in a boutique selling high-end jeans, the store clerk complimented my jeans, surely not imagining how inexpensive they were!
5’6", with long torso, weight varies between 150-165 over past few years. Still have a defined waistline, with waist narrower than hips (when I look head-on in the mirror I can see where the narrowest point is) - guess that’s called pear-shaped these days?

EPTR The mall closest to me has a N.Y. &Co. Store. No nearby Marshalls so I’m not sure about that.

Another vote for Talbots and Ann Taylor. They both have different fits to try.

I am 5’-6" and 130 pounds with all the extra weight in my thighs and butt. I love Not your daughters dreams, but you might think they are too stretchy. I like my butt, but not my thighs for what it’s worth.

I like that their models don’t look superskinny. Personally I think the bootcut is the most flattering: http://www.nydj.com/view-all/l/200?mobile=&content=&search=1&creative=37966569588&adpos=1t1&network=g&Target=&placement=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=nydj_trademark&utm_content=3610408&cid=googlecpc&kcid=09c51274-5614-8469-1b34-00004a2609e9&gclid=Cj0KEQjwidKiBRCevbT6yeqPrJQBEiQA1iM2Wf3Ff7093h_YrAPmiYs8Dlb5bi9_G9T6EYzqo3txGH4aAqfT8P8HAQ#.

I second the suggestion for trying the Gloria Vanderbilt pants, I bought a pair of cords last year at Costco and liked them so much I went and got a second pair. Higher waist than most which is nice if you have too many short cut t-shirts from LL Bean.

Banana Republic, REI, and Prana. I have good luck with these, especially Prana.

Ok, I see several suggestions for NYDJ, but I am a big thrifter and I see MANY pairs of NYDJ at Goodwill/Value Village with some areas-usually in the crotch or upper thighs COMPLETELY stretched out. They look terrible and I’ve seen so many like this that I wonder if people are buying the wrong sizes thinking they’ll stretch THAT much or if the Lycra/spandex just gives out over time. I’ve seen enough of them that it’s stopped me from even considering a new pair, aside from the high prices. What have those of you who wear them found as far as wear and tear?

I have at least five pairs of NYDJ…denim and cordoroy. My favorites are a pair of regular jeans that I’ve had for a while…and wear VERY often. I also have black and brown ones that get a LOT of wear. They are not worn in those areas at all. I’m a size six or eight in these slacks. My guess is the worn ones you saw were too small for the wearer.

They are about $35 a pair at Nordstrom Rack.

I found a pair at a consignment store this fall for $18 and loved them. Sort of like a white/beige animal print. Went and tried them on at Nordstrom Rack and some on sale at Nordstrom. They just didn’t feel right, like the ones from the consignment. I think I’m between sizes.

My NYDJ pants have all lasted well. I’m in year 4 or 5 of them I think, and I wear them all the time.

Another possibility for you, Conmama, White House Black Market.

I am excited to have about 8 Stores for sure to go visit. I’ve never bought any clothes from many of them, believe it or not. J Crew, Ann Taylor, Banan Republic and several others mentioned. Looks like I am going to have to bite the billet and just pay a bit extra or some quality trousers. I did stop by JJill and they were all stretch too.

Do sign up with each of the web sites and like their facebook pages. That way you’ll get regular emails with discount % off. Makes the price tags a lot more bearable. I go into Ann Taylor, try on pants to find a “line” that fits, then wait till I get a good discount and order a couple of pair.

I have this problem with jeans…last season, I bought Calvin Klein and I love the fit…started out with regular jeans and went back to get the black ones. The look and feel great , but the black ones have a sulphur like smell to the fabric that I can’t seem to wash away. The worst was when low rise jeans were all the rage. They don’t look good on most people, let alone people over the age of 21 ;)

Oh, I was never so happy when the low rise jeans went out of style. My favorite is the boot cut, as it proportions the hips. I do like true straight legs with heels. I hate skinny with just flats…not good for pears. I will wear them with booties or boots though…as long as my hips are covered

@GA2012MOM - I would order a size down - J.Crew pants run large…D normally wears a 2, but easily wears a zero in J.Crew.

I didn’t read the whole thread, but I love the curvy cut pants from Talbot’s. Dress, casual, jeans. Only problem is they are not all cut alike, so you must try them on. Some of the fabrics are cheap with too much shine and stretch, but overall their pants give me the best fit. Just bought a pair of gray pinstripe dress pants yesterday.

I also buy Gloria Vanderbilt for casual pants. The regular length can be short, but higher waist fits nicely.

I just put on my black cordoroy Gloria Vaderbilt jeans…and remembered why I like them so much. Soft and a perfect fit! And the price is right.
