Arias Case in Arizona

I don’t think she has “admitted to murder.” She is claiming self defense. If the jury believes her, she will be acquitted and will be free to go.

No she has definitely admitted to murder. It was the first question her lawyer asked her when she put her on the stand. She does not contest she murdered him, she is looking to get second degree murder based on self defense.

She had no choice but to make the admission because of the pictures recovered from the camera.

The pictures taken with the camera, both before and after, are all I need to see what went on. Nobody, after killing someone in self defense, and in a state of shock, documents the bloodied body after the fact. She’s ridiculous.

Has anyone else seen the video of her in the interrogation room when she does a head stand?

Great that the camera was found and can bear silent witness on behalf of the dead victim. Glad the photos were recoverable. Case is very weird to me.

Yes. She’s an original.

I, too, can not stop watching this trial and it has absolutely nothing to do with the sex aspects of their relationship. How do you stab someone 29 times (many of these in the back), slitting their throat ear to ear, and shooting them in the head… then claim self-defense. I am finding the last few days with “Dr.” Samuels rather boring, especially when the defense attorney is questioning him. I love the questions coming from the jury, though. I wish they would move off the PTSD stuff and deal more with the defense’s tact of claiming self-defense-- given the brutal death of Travis.

yes, samuels continues to drone on and “PTSD” us to death. Tiring. Still love to see Juan go at him though! Just love him. Relentless as a prosecutor should be.

I think both sides are a little lost - so much info for this jury, I am concerned they are getting confused. What they really need to go back to is the gas cans, the license plate and whether she brought the gun and knife with her. These are the things which can prove premeditation, which is the thing that will hang her.

I know that no one will like this…but I just have to say it…
Look Jodi is Guilty. She will spend life in prison no doubt.
Fact is the cant prove that she brought that gun.
They cant prove that the knife did not come from the kitchen or like she has said. They used it to cut some rope. She claims it was in the bathroom.
I dont believe for one second that the story about the gun “just going off”. I just dont know if they will prove intent. The biggest thing to prove intent is the gas cans silly as it sounds. Who does that? Why did she rent a car? That what stands out to me more. I also believe if he intended to kill him why would she let him take pics of her that night? Why would she have not taken the camera?

I’ve been hooked on this case ever since I saw the first 48 Hours special when I was in high school. Just based on that I knew she was guilty.

^to GCmom415 on one of the various Facebook pages that believe she is guilty, a member pointed out that the ME testified that none of the knives they found in the dishwasher would have matched up to the stab wounds in victim. A few days ago I guess a new batch of photos were released supposedly from the defense that the prosecutor never saw until 45 minutes prior to the testimony of the Dr. showed all of the knives found in the dishwasher. They looked like they would have been police pictures so it is strange to me that the prosecutor never saw them. If the ME really said that on the stand than I would think the jury would believe him since the police did check the dishwasher and Jodi is a proven liar. Plus I honestly think based on one of the juror’s questions that they believe she is still lying to save herself. I believe it was the one when the Dr. mentioned that she would be apathetic (the word he used is escaping me) and consistent with her story if she was lying.

I agree the jury is probably confused to some extent but I think Juan will bring up the knife, gun, gas cans, and car rental again in closing argument especially since (I believe) they went requested records from Walmart and the gas station to be entered in as evidence.

Like I said I do think Jodi is guilty. I dont know if I even believe in the death penalty. That would be a whole other thread.
What puzzles me is if this was premeditated why would she have taken the pics? Why would she have not taken that camera if she took the knife and the gun? If she just planned to kill him why would she have had that whole night of sex with him? Thats just strange.
The gas cans make me wonder, the rented car and the stolen weapon from her grandparents house makes me suspicious.
The fact is Travis could have had a gun…people didnt know everything about Travis apparently. Travis could have had a random knife that didnt match the others…I do in my house. I honestly think he was using her but that doesnt ever justify what she did.
The girl snapped. But was it planned is the question?

GCMom, you have so many of the same questions I have. Jodi is not stupid, so why rent the car, and pay for the gas and walmart purchase of the gas can with her debit card and keep all the receipts!? Why not just withdraw cash? Heck, she could have thrown on a $299 Maaco paint job for the price of the rental car and stole some license plates. As you said, why the nude photos, wouldn’t she have taken the camera with her, or at least the memory card? After all, she was an avid photographer.

Yeah, she is a sociopathic whack job, but so much doesn’t add up. Unfortunately, we will never know the whole story.

If I ever need to whack somebody, I know what NOT to do. :)

Remember, jurors only have to find guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. They do NOT have to tie up all the lose ends or try to all of D’s actions or testimony. It’s not like a good movie where most of the lose story threads are neatly tied together–this is someone who was coming unglued from all the evidence I’ve seen and heard.

@GA2012mom Wow good points…Jodi is not stupid nuts maybe but not stupid…ya the debit card. She would not have done that of it was planned…OK rental car…maybe her car could not do the trip and was old. Hmmm but the gas cans? Good point with the memory card. Im gonna catch up now on HLN and go to bed…Im also waiting on college admissions so I cant sleep!! It helps!

Yes, Judge Himom. I understand the law, but it doesn’t stop me from wondering what the hell makes her tick and why and how she did it.

@himom… Can they still say First Degree and not sentence her to death? Lets say just LIFE. Can they do second degree? Manslaughter?
I dont know if this was premeditated I personally have doubt. Does anyone know?

@GA2012mom…ya I would love to know why…what made her do this? What makes anyone kill? Who the heck knows…we prob never will.

Often people are too complicated to fully understand. We all have our quirks and can plan meticulously about some things while others are neglected and even sloppy. Really smart folks don’t get caught, so we usually only hear about those which are more imperfect by definition.

To ever impose a death sentence requires a separate determination and is a different phase of the case, not automatic. You have to read the statute of AZ to find out sentencing for each offense.

Haven’t watched or heard enough to have much of a deep understanding of this case but suspect a jealous rage may be at least part of the motivation–if I can’t have you no one can. This is often seen in men killing their partners who are or have left them.

Just a hunch…from what I have heard…and seen from the text messages ect.
She did love him…wanted to even possibly marry him. He saw her more as a person to have sex with and not be the virgin with her he claimed to be… as he was a mormon. He had his own secret life. I think she realized he would never be with her. Many times women confuse sex with love. Women fall in love… get attached especially when sex is involved and alot of the time (but not all the time) men dont. Still not a reason for murder. But I am sure in her mind she felt abused by him.

Premeditation is going to be tough to prove in this case. But there is some chance that this jury just might dislike her so much after her 18 days on the stand, that they just might go out of their way to rule that way. I think it was a huge mistake to put her on the stand. She really revealed who she is. My conclusion is that not only is she convinced that she is more intelligent than everyone else, but she has a huge problem with authority or with anyone who disagrees with her. That comes out big time with Juan who you can tell really detests her. I think his whole aggressive persona is an attempt to show the jury that he is outraged at this crime and they should be too. Problem is that it only takes 1 juror to have sympathy for this woman and you have a hung jury. Then the whole thing has to be re-tried.
