AriesAthena

For longer term readers of CC, I thought I’d drop a note to say that I got a call from AriesAthena this morning and that she, D, and me had lunch together and she’s now huddled with D over a laptop in D’s room, the two happily chattering away.

Fun to see her and we had a great chat. She seems to be coming along splendidly–she and D were talking about law school–except that she hasn’t been cured of being a Federalist Society member yet. (Yes, she and I have some flashy verbal saber work when we get together but neither takes any offense. Plus I told her some jokes she thought were absolutely disgusting.)

Glad to hear that she is well. Did she graduate from law school this May? Ever hear from Twinkle or Sunshine?

So Dad,

Are you saying that Aries has dropped us for some new friends? Tell her to come on over back to SA. We miss her but it is good to hear that she is doing well.

I have frequently missed her and wondered if all was okay. Thanks for the report. Now, when is she going to report in on you :p?

Thanks for the update. Tell her hello from all her “old” friends.

Sybbie: SA?

BP: I got an e-mail from Twinkle when I was going nuts just before leaving on vacation and I owe her a reply…Aries also gave me an update today. Twinkle has just turned 21. Gasp. From her e-mail, she’s also done very well as she heads into her last year. Alas, I’ve never heard from Sunshine. One of several that I’d like to know how the next chapter(s) turned out…though I feel privileged to know even the few I do.

Over30, will do.

JMMom…I never know when Aries is going to report on me. Fortunately, I live in righteousness and don’t have to be afraid. Much. It’s daunting when she and D ally themselves.

Dad,

you don’t know SA? where have you been? Sinner’s Alley, the bar that never closes.

Oh, that SA. I think I’m persona au gratin there.

Johnny Depp? Persona au gratin? Not on your life!

TheDad threatened to sign me up for the American Constitutional Society when I’m not looking, just to destroy my nice conservative credentials! Harrumph! (What he does not yet know is that he’ll be on Orange County & LA Republican Party email lists soon enough. )

i*

As I walked in the door, TheDad said, “What is Irish foreplay?”
me: “Um… getting drunk?”
TheDad: “When Murphy says, ‘Brace yourself, [Aries].’ [pause] I had a[n] [Aries] joke, so I had to tell it.”

He also mentioned something about a movie that he’s starring in, but I haven’t seen anything about a Rutherford B. Hayes documentary… anyone know what this could be about?

Thank you for the well-wishes. I’ve been busy - in Aries-world, it’s still February, but the real world isn’t cooperating. :)

Good to see another post from you, Ariesathena. I, too, have been wondering how you are.

me too, …

The joke is funnier if you make the right substitution for [Aries] and deliver the line with the appropriate accent.

Aries, I’ve been put on the damnedest mailing lists so one or two more won’t hurt. I consider it a form of low-level Oppo Research anyway. Anyone who wants to know where my true sentiments lie can Google my true name on the FEC reports. I don’t think you can prank that on a big enough level to cause any doubts about me. :)

Cheers, I think SA was formed as a refuge from the kinds of posts I make on controversial cafe topics. It’s been noted that it’s almost as if my personae in the cafe topics and in the college-related “helpful” topics are those of two completely different people. I respect the intentions of SA and stay away.
And I find some of the froth to be more than a little too saccharine for my sensibilities in any event.

===

But, Aries, it was damned good to see you, which was the point of this whole thread in the first place. I’m perhaps fortunate that geography is not such that you and D can gang up on me more often…I can handle either one of you solo but the pair is formidable. Cf., Von Schlieffen’s adjurations against fighting two-front wars. Or maybe it was Moltke the Younger. One of them in the pointy helmets at any rate.

Aries:

When you go back to your old neighborhood, drop by! Great to hear that you are in as good form as ever. And against TheDad, too. I fondly remember the paper clip and staple thread that somehow morphed into a discussion of amphorae.

TheDad,
Thank you so very much for the updates. Aries-thanks for stopping by also. You gave me some great tips that son used on his successful road trip last summer.
LA

Marite - will do. I’ll be by in a few months, although probably only for a day or so. If I have some time, I’ll let you know and will swing by your area. (The fam has a new dog, who is beyond adorable, so I want to head to New England and meet her. )

I do recall that thread. I believe that the issue was whether one’s application would be enhanced by red or black figure amphorae.

TheDad - it was wonderful to see you and TheDaughter. It’s been a while. I do wish that my birthday buddy were in town - would have been nice to have reinforcements. Not sure why you think that you can handle any one of the three of us on our own…???

Googled you and FEC. Wow, there’s a lot of losing candidates on that list! Well, I know in whose name to put my donations when I start earning some real money. (I don’t have the Odyssey in front of me, but I believe that Athene said, “That is why we could never fail each other, Odesseus; tricksters, pranksters are we both.”)

Geography is relative. I’ve just been bad about letting y’all know when I’m in town (mea culpa!).

LAMom - glad to hear that the road trip was a success! (I drove cross-country a while back and was thinking about your son’s trip - hoping it went well.)

Over30 - good to hear from you! How are things?

===

All ~ Been doing well. Busy, but well. I had a few seconds off this weekend, which was nice. No, I haven’t left you for new friends. :stuck_out_tongue: Sinner’s Alley is a better place without me - I made the mistake of mixing tequila, bourbon, and men a few weeks back, and want to take Comet and a Brillo pad to my soul. (Interestingly, the one and only eye-roll that I earned from TheDaughter was when I expressed remorse at being too busy to go to ATF night - shooting range, then cigars and martinis with the Young Republicans. Some people don’t feel the need to celebrate the Second and Twenty-First Amendments.)

Aries, I don’t mourn that my candidates lost, for in most cases they are better than what we received instead. Have fun when you return to the Right Coast. :)

Btw, I’ll drop you a line…I may be popping down to San Diego a couple of times in the next 2-3 weeks, most likely on week days, so dinner would be a better option than lunch.

Huh… oddly, the right wing and the left coast figures into my blog title… funny you should mention that. ;)

I would love to see you in you’re in my neck of the woods. Is there anyone else on CC who would be interested, or would we be all exclusive?
