I’m an international transfer student applying to both, and also UW Madison. At first I thought ASU was the better choice over OSU, but after I saw a few posts about ASU’s reputation as not being so good I’m quite confused.
Could really appreciate any help here
ASU has one of the top Physics depts in the country, so that’s a no-brainer as long as you get into Barrett (the Honors College).
However I’d pick UW Madison over either ASU or OSU! I’d only weight UW Madison vs. ASU Barrett.
ASU Barrett. Hasn’t the Wisconsin governor gutted the superlatives from its university system?
Yes, he’s made huge budget cuts and the revenge against faculty members (cutting tenure provisions) means there are some leaving.
I actually didn’t realize how important tenure was to faculty work and collegiality until the “drowned bunnies” business started at Mount St Mary’s in Maryland (where dissenting on a key issue was considered, not dissent, but disloyalty/treason and led to the faculty being fired - if you can’t disagree on a college campus, where free circulation of ideas is basically the point, then there’s a huge problem. I never realized we were there, in the 21st century, and that tenure protection wasn’t something invented for less democratic times.)
My SAT is 2160 and my GPA is only 3.43 so I don’t think I stand a very god chance of getting into Barrett. Also, since I’m transferring as a junior it seems I can’t apply to Barrett at all.
I will probably go to UW if I can get in but if I can’t, is ASU Tempe’s regular campus better or worse than OSU, specifically in Physics? Also, how are the research opportunities offered in ASU compared to OSU?
Thanks for your replies
How are you transferring as a junior? Are you in HS or in college?
If you’re in college, your SAT score has no relevance at all.
If you’re a transfer admitted directly to the major then either ASU or UWisconsin.
Surprisingly ASU does look at scores for transfers. http://uoia.asu.edu/sites/default/files/common/CDS_2015-2016_Tempe.pdf
