<p>Navy did not play well yesterday. Army did play well even though they lost the game. Enhada made numerous mistakes yesterday and the defense also needs to do better.</p>

<p>If Navy goes to the Meineke Bowl with the same team, we are all going to be disappointed. The Maryland Twerps may be right in saying that Navy is beneath them. </p>

<p>The good news is that Coach Johnson has four weeks to get the team back on track.</p>

More than a few brooms popped up in the section where the Brigade of Midshipmen was standing for the 107th Army-Navy game here Saturday. They were to signify Navy’s attempt at a four-year sweep of the Black Knights and Air Force.</p>

<p>Navy’s defense made good in a 26-14 victory before 69,943 at Lincoln Financial Field. The defense accounted for nine points in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory, the fifth in a row for Navy (9-3) over Army (3-9)…

For three hours or so every December, brothers in arms become blood rivals and two football teams with probably the largest rooting sections in all of sport, reaching across the globe, compete in a setting draped in pride and pomp.</p>

It takes a lot to get Paul Johnson to talk much about himself, much less brag about himself, after a game. Not even the events of yesterday’s 107th Army-Navy game were a good enough reason to turn the spotlight in that direction.</p>

<p>A few reporters tried, after he led Navy to a fifth straight victory over Army - this time, 26-14, at Lincoln Financial Field - and improved his record against the service academies to 9-1 in his five years in Annapolis. Johnson didn’t even want to take credit for the outgoing senior class being perfect in four years against Army and Air Force…

In the middle of Navy’s first possession yesterday, junior fullback Adam Ballard limped off the field in pain, and the tone was set for what would be an unusually tough day for the Midshipmen.</p>

<p>For the past four years, the Midshipmen had owned Army by overwhelming their service academy rival with the precision and speed of their spread option attack. This time, Army (3-9) brushed aside its turnover-marred, losing season by grabbing an early lead, disrupting the rhythm of the Navy option and moving the ball without making mistakes…

Army’s band tapped the last note of its alma mater as Black Knights reserve linebacker Lee Crain bawled. He’s a senior special-teams player, an Army brat, a former walk-on from Fort Sill, Okla.</p>

Sure, Army played Navy close for three-plus quarters yesterday, seemingly closing the gap on the Midshipmen, but the Black Knights still have lost five games in a row to their rivals.</p>

<p>No, it only seems that way.</p>

<p>The Black Knights have games tentatively scheduled with top 25 teams Boston College, Georgia Tech and Boston College on the road next season. Wake Forest defeated Georgia Tech 9-6 in yesterday’s ACC championship game.</p>

Bobby Ross hoped to turn around Army as quickly as he raised Georgia Tech from the ashes in the late-1980s.</p>

<p>That was the plan, anyway. After Army’s 26-14 loss to Navy yesterday, Ross admitted he was probably being too ambitious.</p>

<p>“I don’t know if that’s fair at West Point,” Ross said, after Army finished its third season under him 3-9. “At Georgia Tech, we were able to get it done in about three years. Here, when I look back and reflect on it, and see it, it might take a little longer than I planned.”…

Last season Navy fullback Adam Ballard rumbled through the middle of the Army defense for 192 yards, but yesterday was decidedly different. </p>

<p>Ballard went down awkwardly on his second carry against the Black Knights at Lincoln Financial Field before hopping toward the Navy sideline. He left the playing field on crutches and an X-ray revealed Ballard has a broken right fibula…

<p>And down in the paid-parking lot at Lincoln Financial Field, where the tailgaters massed, 110 Army fans were missing him, too. To the loosely organized band of fans who meet up each year for the Army-Navy game, Paredes is the “great spirit,” Mike O’Donnell said…
