Arnold Palmer died.

He was one of my heroes growing up.

I saw him in a restaurant once. He had so much charisma. I think Bill Clinton and Arnold Palmer had the most charisma of anybody I have ever seen.

As a kid, I pretended I was Arnold Palmer, as I putted a golf ball in the living room with an ashtray as the hole.

:frowning:

Had just heard. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Latrobe was always on the way to our many visits to Ligonier and always thought of Arnold Palmer. Good, long life. Arnold Palmer iced tea is delicious! We should all raise a glass. RIP.

As a Wake Forest grad, it’s a sad day for us Demon Deacons. He was a real class act.

I always had great respect for Arnold Palmer - and cherished my autographed copy of “Arnie Palmer and the Golfin’ Dophin” - but I did strongly disagree with him when it came to the Casey Martin situation. Still, RIP Arnold Palmer.

Darn it. :frowning:

So sad. Admitted to the hospital for cardiac tests. Bye Arnie.

He had looked increasingly frail when he’s made appearances for the past few years. My H met him several times at various golf and charity events. And at Arnie’s course in Florida where he was a fixture in the clubhouse, eating lunch and talking to everyone there, telling stories. A nice guy.

Sad, but perhaps fitting, that he passed away on one of the biggest golf days of the season. I wonder if Dustin Johnson somehow knew.

His (first) wife who died of cancer went to my college. Legend has it that the Dean --basically the dean of women–was APPALLED when she found out a student was engaged to a COLLEGE DROP OUT who thought he could earn a living playing golf!!! She called the student into her office and said the equivalent of “What on earth are you doing? Have you lost your mind!!!” Her dad felt the same way. They eloped.

From all accounts, they had an extraordinarily happy marriage–despite the fact that she was 19 when they met, he proposed within 4 or 5 days of meeting her, and they married two months later.

RIP Arnie.

He was supposed to have had heart surgery today and was in the hospital for testing . He died in the same hospital my sister and I were born in, Shadyside. He’s always kept a home in Latrobe, east of Pittsburgh. The airport there was named after him. Some of the remembrances from people have been very nice.

The Golf Channel will have coverage tomorrow beginning at 7 am to include live coverage of the memorial service . Saint Vincent College in Latrobe should be a lovely setting for this. There is a beautiful basilica there… The Steelers have had their training camp at Saint Vincent for years.

That was a wonderful service.

I agree and very emotional.
