I have a family member who is trying to find a mental health professional to do med management for a mental health condition.
She first tried a Psychiatrist who she did not connect with. Someone recommended another person. This person is listed as a ARNP-psychiatry. From what I briefly searched on the internet it stands for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Has anyone had any experience with using such a person.
She already has a strong relationship with a primary therapist.

Hmm, this may be nothing but …

My D also has a medical situation that requires management. There’s only one practice in our area that handles her condition, and it appears that my D may never see a physician there. The nurse has been great though. YMMV.

The ARNP should be fine if your family member connects well with them. While ARNPs do have prescriptive authority in most states they are officially under an MD. Mostly that means that he or she has an MD to consult with if they have questions or concerns about a patient. Psychiatric ANRPs do just what you are looking for all the time. As a hospice nurse I often work with them.

I agree with mini (Ellen - mini’s better half??)
ARNP’s are health professionals. They have advanced schooling (at least a Master’s degree) and specialize in their field. I would say give it a go!!
