Very scary, I know several students there. Just glad they were caught before something happened.
^^^Agree, especially when you take into account today’s attacks in Brussels.
I note with concern that the authorities found a “mortar and pedestal” in the dorm room.
Is this headline an overreaction? Were they trying to make a bong instead of a bomb?
A “Match Head Bomb”, is simply match heads in a pipe, capped at both ends and lit with a standard fuse. It’s one of the easiest “recipes” in the Anarchist Cookbook (though still very dangerous to create!).
I’m concerned that the reporter in knee jerk fashion associated the incident with terrorism and ISIS without knowing anything at all about anything other than there was an arrest and some bomb making materials were found.
Very bad sensationalist reporting! Complete rubbish!
This must be the section, at the end, that’s “rubbish”:
Nothing in this section is false. It’s simply proposing a possible reason why college kids would be building PIPE BOMBS in their dorm. It’s also this possible ISIS link that makes it a national story. Especially after the recent bombings in Paris and Brussels. This isn’t an AP story, but an article posted on an opinion website, so this type of conjecture is to be expected.
Hopefully, this is just a bunch of idiot kids who got ahold of the Anarchist Cookbook and thought making a bomb (in a dorm, while using drugs) would be awesome.
Given the fact that most terrorism in the US is domestic in origin and these days perpetrated by right wing radicals, it would be more logical to speculate that the students are affiliated with a US right wing radical group. That’s why it’s rubbish.
Americans have more to fear from one another than from ISIS or citizens radicalized by them.
The facts speak for them selves. Just google deaths from domestic vs foreign terrorism … and gun violence, then number of deaths in wars globally these past 20 years or so. The terrorists just need to sit back and watch us kill each other off and poison our own wells.
This is why the article is rubbish.
gun violence is not terrorism.
^I didn’t say it was. If you re-read my comment, I clearly did not equate them.
@soccerguy315 Gun violence is possibly worse than terrorism. As a society we abhor terrorism. But we’ve come to accept gun violence.
This is a very poorly written article and makes all kinds of assumptions about the case without any supporting information. To make a connection to terrorism or radical Islam without any facts of the case is just lousy reporting. To me, it sounds like these guys were more into the drugs than anything else.
Without more details than this, so what???
I know a student who accidentily set his dorm room on fire when he was throwing and lighting blobs of hand sanitizer “fireballs” for entertainment. Hard to believe anyone could be this bone-headed, but it was just typical adolescent male stupidity, not deliberate criminality.
I was worried about that dangerous pedestal, but sanity has prevailed: http://pilotonline.com/news/nation-world/virginia/correction-george-mason-arrests-story/article_43b4b786-8536-568d-bea2-0fd03550a0f1.html
This story may be less than it appears to be.
Anyone remember this movie from where this scene comes from?
