Anyone here have art center as their safety? Does anyone want to give their personal input on the school?

What other safety schools would you suggest in the california area for film?

As far as I can see , art schools fall into three categories. The top schools, such as Art Center (expecially for ID), RISD, MICA, Pratt… Ringling for Animation, FIT and Parsons for fashion etc. are hard to get into and require a strong portfolio, which makes entrance questionable based on the portfolio and sometimes the academics. Also, there are a number of strong art programs that are hard to get into because of academic requirements such as top LACS,UCLA, University of Cincinnati.

The second cetagory are those are schoosl that will take anyone with a pulse and money and probably don’t even need a pulse. The Art Institutes and some others meet this category.

All the remaining art schools fall somewhere in between the categories noted above.

Moreover, notice that many art schools have differing admission standards depending on the major. For example, Ringling is quite difficult for animation majors but is a LOT easier for most other majors. Thus, it also depends on what major you are applying for.

Bottom Line: Art Center , especially for ID, is no easy or garantee for admission. I think if you apply to Art Center for a major other than ID, you might have a better shot and would be considered more of a “safety.”

i’m sorry can you write out those acronyms? what’s ID?

My portfolio for film is quite strong in my eyes, especially after finishing this new project… I’ve spoken to a counselor at art center, showed him my work old high school work, he said they’re good for admissions. I don’t want to end up at CSUN because i think it falls into that category of needing a pulse to get in.

so yea, what do all these acronyms mean?

ID- Industrial Design
