Art Center vs. SVA vs. CalArts

Hi - I’m a high school senior applying for BFAs in Graphic Design. I’ve heard back from all of my art schools - but I’m really having trouble deciding where to go. I’ve eliminated my choices down to 3 definite favourites:

California Institute of the Arts ($8,000 Scholarship for 1st Year)
School of Visual Arts ($50,000 Scholarship)
Art Center College of Design (No Scholarship)

I guess I’m looking for a school that will be able to give me practical education on graphic design and be able to offer many opportunities. I’m also looking for a school with a nurturing community.

Any help/suggestion/insight is highly appreciated!

Those are all excellent choices! Here are a couple of outside rankings for you. Keep in mind that the USNews are for grad programs which are indirectly associated with the quality of the undergrad. Those just came out today so you are in luck. The GDUSA rankings have been around for a couple of years - they include current and historical comparisons which is really helpful, IMHO.

My advice would be to visit each program if possible and think of the two F’s: Fit and Finances.

Good luck and well done!

I don’t think Art Center scholarship info has come out yet!

Weird that GDUSA make no mention of VCUarts yet it’s a topped ranked school in GD and #2 fine arts in the country.
I know the list is about the past 50 years but for prospective students, they should know it is a amazing place right now
and graduating some of the top students out there.
