Art Colleges that Accept the Manga/Anime Style?

As a high school freshman, I’m already starting to think about going to an art college once I graduate. But, being an anime fan (obviously), I can’t seem to find any colleges that are open to artists who draw manga (Japanese comics) or anime. (Of course, there’s SCAD. I want to go there for their Sequential Art and Animation courses, but it’s expensive.) I’ve heard that there aren’t that many art colleges that allow you to draw like this and don’t even consider it “real art”. Are there any art colleges out there (besides SCAD) that don’t look down on anime/manga?

(And if this is the wrong forum, I apologize in advance!)

You can try SVA.

Texas A&M has a BFA in Communication Arts- New Media. Tuition is under 15K. Also SUNY has a BFA in 2 years at FIT or the Fasion Institute which is now an art school that does more than just fashion. It tuition and room is under 25K. If you can manage to get instate for either the tuition is a huge savings. Both of these schools will teach technical aspects of animation and you seem to have your own style so there is less emphasis on drawing and illustration lessons and more on technology. But still you have to take figure drawing(and other) as a foundation class.

This press release is about a one-time event at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, but you might contact some of the presenters who are from a variety of schools.

I just want to address TheresaCPA’s comment:

While this might be a savings you cannot establish residency while attending school and residency is generally attached to the location of the parents. Don’t just assume you can do this.
