Art Depts Always Run By "Nutty Professors"?

My daughter wants to eliminate two schools based on meeting two eccentric heads of art departments. I admit they both seemed a little odd, but thought my daughter could learn to adapt to their styles. Isn’t that what college is about? Maybe she’ll find she’s not cut out for the art field. Is there such a thing as a conservative art student?

I’ve known a lot of conservative art students. I’m just not sure how easy it is to find a conservative art professor.

That’s not a bad thing. It depends upon your daughter’s ability to be true to herself while learning from those with different values.

conservative art departments tend to be ones that focus more on design than actual art. you’ll find those type of professors to be conservative because they’ll try to steer you into a marketable direction instead of the personal art direction.

Imho, your daughter will meet a lot of people she considers odd before she finishes college. Eliminating a school because she meets a couple of eccentric professors seems foolish.

Unfortunately, both these professors were the head of the department and she would have to take classes with them. At larger schools, graphic design can also be found in another department, such as computer science. This may be a better way for her to go. Thanks for your replies.
