Art requirement for admission

It says on UC’s website that in order to apply, you must have completed a certain number of courses per subject, including at least one year of art. I’m an out of state student and I’ll be applying for fall 2012 admission. My friend just got into both UCLA and UCB and never took any art/music classes. Does this mean it isn’t a requirement for out of state students?

It looks like you do need a year even if you are out of state. There are new requirements for Fall 2012 (actually not sure if it was a requirement for out of state prior). I guess try to take AP Art History, art, ceramics, or something your senior year if you want to apply. The only difference is that you need at least a 3.4 instead of a 3.0 to apply as out of state.

Apparently it was? My friend even told me something like, “Wow, I wasted money on UC applications because they require these art courses.” I don’t know, I feel like they may allow it if you’re an out of state applicant because state requirements are different, and we don’t have these “a-g courses” anywhere else as far as I know. I guess I’ll just apply and see what happens?
