I’m not planning to major in art, but I thought an art portfolio could add some weight to my application if the office considers it. I’m still at a crossroads as to what I want to do but right now I’m looking into environmental engineering so I plan to have at least 15 pieces portraying people after natural disasters or third world countries like the Nepal earyhquake, getting clean water in Africa, the smog in china and focus on the peoples emotion and the environment around them, but I also wanted to put art in that reminds us of the beauty we have right now (going to the beach, climbing mountains, enjoying the water).
I would definitely go for it if I had the time but right now as a to be senior I have at least 3 months left to get any final ACT/SAT studying done and on top of that write my personal essays. the art place I’m going to get the portfolio done is about 30 minutes away and if I do it I’m going to have to put in work and go out at least 4-5 times a week and take out time in my day as well to finish the pieces at home.
if it helps, I’m a self taught artist but I don’t have a lot of experience with different mediums, but I will say that my sleight of hand is pretty good and I am a fast learner. but at the same time it might stymie me in working at my most effecient pace. do you think the time and money I’m putting in is worth it or should I just drop it and focus on my studies?
