I think is kind of undervalued in college admissions… Not a lot of people do art, as it takes immense amount of skill, patience, time, and intelligence to create a nice work of art (painting, drawing sculpture)… More so than something like sports

i wouldnt go so far as to say sports need less patience/skills/time…i think it depends on the athlete/artist and the sport/art form.
i mean, i’m a dancer, and I think it’s terribly difficult–much more so than sports.

i think when you say art you have to be very specific. because if you’re referring to fine art, a lot of “nice work” is subjective.

With art schools, your art is the number one thing that has the most value in your application.

If you don’t plan on majoring in any art related field, putting it down on an application or showing some of your art work, is as useful to the process to putting down you did sports for so and so much time(when you don’t plan to do sports at the school). It’s really not that big of a deal, when it isn’t even the major you’re going to enter.

alot of people consider dance a type of sport. The difficulty with art is that so many people have varying tastes and it is much more subjective. in sports you can say he is faster or stronger or has a higher shooting percentage, but art is so much more personal.

I personally believe that if you have an artistic gift, you are blessed in a way that many others can only dream to be. How many people can be so fortunate as to have self-sustaining riches … for the soul? In recent years, I have seen student/artists stand out in remarkable ways, through love of their art, and even to the point of being accepted into wonderful schools, e.g., RISD, Pratt Institute and Stanford. Follow your passions and let the brilliance of your talents guide you on your path. Good luck!

jimbob, you truly are hilarious! I know you’re too smart to have knowingly contradicted yourself without intending (tongue in cheek)??
BTW, my daughter studied classical ballet for 14 years, so I think I know what you’re alluding to.

i went to an arts high school, we didn’t have any sports, but we all went home extremely physically and mentally exhausted (i was in theater).
