Arthritic shoulder help

I was just diagnosed with arthritis in my right shoulder (after being treated for suspected tendonitis, then impingement with aggressive physical therapy- ouch) Well, finally an MRI showed fairly advanced loss of cartilage. Anyone have any tips for treatment? Also, the doctor is going to discuss having an injection of a lubricating gel into the joint (done with a scope so the injection is put into exactly the right spot). Any experience with this treatment?

Thanks!

no experience with injections, but I have arthritis issues and recently strained something in my shoulder. A deep-muscle massage has done wonders. I’d say 90% improvement. Good luck!

I guess that it would be good to know what caused the loss in cartilage so that you don’t have bone grinding on bone in the future and that any intermediate solutions aren’t undone.

I have had this problem in the past in the knee and rest along with a knee stabilizer helped it heal. I also take glucosamine tablets - they are supposed to help the body rebuild cartilage.

There’s a company in Cambridge or Boston (maybe Genzyme) that created a process for removing some of your cartilage and then growing it in a lab for reinsertion later on. It was an expensive process when I heard about it (1990s I think) but it might be something to consider today.
