"Arthur" Celebrates Mr. Ratburn's Gay Wedding

I’m guessing Arthur was a happy part of your kid’s childhoods. My three kids adored the PBS show “Arthur” - when together they frequently reminisce about episodes and the # of Arthur songs they can sing without missing a beat could be seen as embarrassing!

Tonight on our family thread they are all praising the fact that PBS aired the wedding of Mr. Ratburn to his new husband.

Way to go Arthur! https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/allthemoms/2019/05/13/arthurs-mr-ratburn-has-gay-wedding-pbs-kids-show/1193952001/

My kids still will watch Arthur with me! My daughter had a teacher in third grade who was very like Mr Ratburn. He was incredibly strict. He’s still her favorite teacher ever!

My son sent this story to me. Love it and very proud of the show.
Such fond memories of Arthur. We still watch Arthur’s Perfect Christmas every year.

It was our family’s favorite show.

S2 loved the show and reading Arthur books. I’m sure, even after our downsizing, that I kept at least 1 or 2 of those books.

Aww, we loved “Arthur!” Cheers to the happy couple!

Kids take information at face value, not with critical eyes and tainted hearts, Case in point…in 1990 my then 2 year old saw several people walking down the street, 2 happened to be men, holding hands. “Why are they holding hands?” asked my inquisitive child. “Because they love each other” (simple and to the point) her response??? “Oh” - also simple and to the point. Don’t be alarmed, human sexuality isn’t contagious. And one more thing…it’s 2019 folks, grow up and join the 21st century. Mazel Tov to Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone, may you live long healthy and happy lives.

? What is this, Moddle Ages?!!!

Social justice is all about banning, deplatforming, and attacking individuals with differing opinions and beliefs. Doxxing and attempting to get people fired from their jobs are par for the course. I’m not sure why people are surprised that others would resort to similar tactics.

Absolutely unsurprising. My guess is that it won’t be the only backwards thinking state to do it.

I just posted that link earlier today! Makes me sad/mad.

Our local Arkansas PBS station also decided on censorship and did not show this episode.

So glad my kids have graduated from this kind of trash TV.

If Miss Sweetwater ( the anti- Mr Rayburn) was marrying a man would anyone think that episode had anything to do with issues of “ human sexuality “? Or talk about how the topic was too mature for kids? Why is this episode any more controversial than the episode where DW was a flower girl? Marriage between two men is legal in every state including Alabama.

So a cartoon show that shows that gay people get married is “trash TV”?

My understanding is that it didn’t show an actual ceremony, just a brief moment where the teacher is shown walking down the aisle with his intended.

Gay marriage is legal and there is nothing wrong with kids knowing that it happens. Most kids probably have someone in their orbit who is LBGTQ, so why this is so controversial is beyond me.

No, they sure wouldn’t.

Would love to hear more about why someone would consider Arthur trash tv.

No doubt because Marc Brown just hasn’t won that Nobel for literature yet. ?

Well, I think a lot of the newer cartoons are pretty poor quality - the animation sucks.

@MaineLonghorn, worse than the repeating backgrounds in Scooby-Doo?
