As a first year community college student, how would I get leadership roles?

I’m currently a high school senior and this fall I’m going to be in my first year of community college. I want to be a leader on campus, but how would that work since I’ll a first year and only have 2 years until transferring? Do people just apply for leadership roles, even if they’re new? Or would I have to wait until my 2nd year?

Join student government as a senator. Every school does it differently, but at some point during the year they should have in house elections to get new senators. Then for the next year run in the elections for an executive position. At least that’s how many california ccs do it.

Or join some clubs, create your own club and make yourself the president, etc.
