As a junior, Am I on the way? chance..

Hi. I am just finishing up the junior year.
It would be thankful if I get advices and chances to Yale SCEA in november.

My stats are:

My mother passed away, so I am adopted to a very humble family to US.

GPA: 3.94 UW
Rank: 13/360

SAT:

Expected: 800M, 800W, 720 R

SAT2:

ECs: (horrible)
Formed Math Team
Formed Magic Club

President of Magic Club

National Honor Society

UW medical center high school intern

Blood Center Volunteer: 100 hrs
Hospitals: 100 hrs
KCCC Leadership Camp: 100 hrs
Church: 400 hrs

Tons and tons of church works.

Based on my states, do i even have a bit of chance? Are there more I can do?

You sure are optimistic… 320 pt increase…

Alright… Your SAT is far too low at this time. Especially Reading, which is possibly the most critical factor.

Your ECs are severely weak. You’re president of clubs that YOU have formed, and other than volunteering and church, you have basically nothing. Your chances don’t seem that great at the moment.

Do what you can to improve the scope of your activities and work on your scores. Even if you don’t get into Yale, that’ll make you competitive for a number of selective colleges.

the magic club? whats that?

I don’t do chances, but for others that do, are your SAT 2s actual or projected scores?

Based on your comment that “my mother passed away, so I am adopted to a very humble family to US”, I would strongly encourage you to check into QuestBridge.org, [QuestBridge Home Page](http://www.questbridge.org).

QuestBridge specifically targets high achieving, low income students who have overcome obstacles (family income typically under $60,000). They have two programs: The College Prep portion which is designed to equip outstanding low-income students to compete for admission to top-ranked colleges; the National College Match portion pairs outstanding low-income high school seniors with admission and full 4-year scholarships to QuestBridge’s 25 partner colleges. The website has tons of info. for you to look at, but I also found it very insightful to read the Questbridge thread on CC http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/508411-official-2008-questbridge-national-college-match-discussion-help.html.

In 2008, 260 students were offered admission and full 4-year scholarships through the National College Match and 800 additional QuestBridge applicants were accepted by partner colleges through the regular admissions process with generous financial aid.

Best of luck.
