I am descended from all northern Europeans. I admit I am quite clumsy, to the point where I just couldn’t do well at phlebotomy (drawing blood in a medical setting). I didn’t have the coordination. The nurses in my family also have trouble with this. None of us can dance well.
My husband’s mother is southern German, and very coordinated. My husband is extraordinarily coordinated, and my daughter, who takes after him, has wowed my family with her coordination. All of my kids are more coordinated than I am.
I was briefly in nursing school, and couldn’t help but notice that just about every black student was a whiz at phlebotomy, inserting catheters, you name it.
My friend’s husband, who is black (she is mostly white), senses this coordination among his race, because he said that their daughter, who dances pretty poorly, “dances like a white girl”. I had to laugh.

Anyone out there notice this about themselves–coordinated if descended from folks near the equator, clumsier if descended from the far north?

By the way, so sorry if this sounds racist! I would so love to be coordinated, and am trying to figure out if there is a link between ethnic origin and this trait.
