This will be published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information. (3 hours a week, entire senior year)

Intel Science Fair- This began in September of 2009 and is a work in progress. My science fair project is to determine the supposed antibacterial effects of ginger on e-coli as a model organism. I am also testing the longevity of the effects. Approximately 3 hours a week is dedicated to this project. I came to this idea for my project through the knowledge that antibiotic resistance is an every-growing problem and my knowledge that ginger has been used for centuries in China as an anti-inflammatory agent. I put these together and came up with my research idea.

International Baccalaureate Group 4 Project- This was during my junior year. I was a member in an interdisciplinary group of IB students who were taking IB biology, IB chemistry or IB physics. Total time spent on this project is estimated at around 25 hours. The group had to come up with a valid research question that had to do with the topic “paper” and one that had chemical, biological and physical aspects to it.

Travels
China: I spent the majority of my summer of 2008 and 2009 in China visiting my grandparents who I had not seen since my immigration in 1999. The first time was mainly to reconnect with my relatives. The second time I was able to visit some colleges in China including the Fudan University of Shanghai and Xi’an Jiaotong University in which I was able to visit each university’s library and experience “college life” in China.
