As an applicant, does my major decision affect my chances? Also where can I review it

Hello all!

I applied to UC Davis for this fall quarter and I’m waiting to hear back as many others are as well. However, I was rejected from Cal Poly (4.02 GPA, 2020 SAT) due to my major selection, Psychology.

I believe that UC Davis did not have an “Undeclared” option, and I am a bit concerned that I selected Psychology and that it might be competitive there and hurt my chances of getting in.

Where can I check what major I applied for at Davis? Also, does the major selection affect my acceptance chances or not? Thanks!

Nevermind the question about review – found it in my U.C. app. It does appear that I applied for Psychology… is that bad? is there a way to change it?

I wouldn’t think so at this point… Davis will be posting acceptances/rejections/waitlistings next week. I would think you would get in with those grades and SATs.

Well thank you… I sure hope so! I didn’t get into UCLA so at this point I’ve kind of got my heart set on Davis a little

I believe you should get in with those stats…if not, you will probably be waitlisted. But is Psychology THAT impacted at Cal Poly? It seems insane that they rejected you… especially since CSU apps are pretty much based off of nothing but numbers…

I heard that BioChem at Cal Poly has something like a 3% acceptance rate, so it’s possible that it’s very impacted/selective at Cal Poly. The fact that I was rejected has just made me very paranoid that applying for Psychology at Davis might screw me over!

hey  honestly, I think the process is really random. I have a friend who got into cal poly with, I believe a 3.8 and 1890? sat score. Obviously, u have higher nos. than her. I just don’t think u should stress out much  I know it’s hard cause I’m going through the same process and I should be more worried than you since I have much lower nos. anyway, hope u get in to your first choice :)

I thought you can check what major you applied on the status page (https://secureweb.ucdavis.edu/form-cgi/da_form.pl?stuff=https:%2F%2Fsecureweb.ucdavis.edu%2Fform-auth%2Fsendback%3Fhttps:%2F%2Fsisweb.ucdavis.edu%2Fowa_service%2Fowa%2Fbwzkuadm.P_AppChoices</a>)

I thought UCD reviews application by college… like if you’re major belong to college of physical sciences, that college will only review applicants that applied to their major. Not sure though.

UC Davis accepts by majors/colleges. I believe UCSD is the only UC that accepts the person first then sends it to the college to see if you get in. If college does not accept you you are accepted as undeclared

To note:

Cal Poly SLO - Psychology - REJECTED
UCLA - Undeclared - REJECTED
UCSD - Undeclared, First Choice John Muir - ACCEPTED
