As Difficult as Harvard?

A friend of mine just told me that it is just as difficult to get in to UW as it is to get into Harvard. Is this true???

She was talking undergraduate admissions…in state!! Help!!

It isn’t. See my old posts on the UW forum. It is hard to get into Computer Science as freshman or the Honors program. PM me if you want details.

Ditto to what parentofbear said. It’s not a slam-dunk for in-state students to get into (apparently it used to be, back when dinosaurs ruled the earth), but students with good GPAs and test scores have a good chance. They’ve also gone to a holistic admissions policy, so students without the great GPA and scores have a chance if their “whole person” looks good.

An interesting article in the Seattle Times yesterday about the branch campuses in Bothell and Tacoma: http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=branchcampus24m&date=20060924&query=UW+bothell</a> They both now take freshman and one should not discount them as a possibility if they offer the major you want. Their admission standards are noticably lower, but the quality of education is high, classes are smaller and easier to get into, etc.
