As promised to quite a few of you: The HGFM Update!!!

Ok, so I have been very remiss about posting this last week and have settled instead for lurking. I do apologize.

BUT. I shall remedy the situation with the update I’ve promised you all (mainly, zoosermom, boysx3 and uclauscdad).

Saturday-moved in & met the roommates. There’s one girl that’s from Manhattan Beach ('bout a half hour from me) whom I clicked with IMMEDIATELY and whom I absolutely adore.

Sunday-kinda slept in. Had breakfast with mom and dad, then they headed home (hard, but I wasn’t as emotional as I thought it would be). Went to some activities later that day and evening that were kinda fun, kinda boring.

Monday-Attended a program called “First Day” that I didn’t really enjoy much but I can see why they had it, then convocation. What drove me CRAZY about convocation was that people were talking, and towards the end people just started getting up and leaving (disrespect is probably my biggest pet peeve).

Tuesday-FIRST DAY OF CLASS! English, then Math. English I really like so far, Math…eh. Not so much, but I’ve never really liked Math.

Wednesday-only Psych. REALLY enjoyed this class. Bigger, but VERY interesting and sounds like it’ll be a fun course.

Thursday (today)-English, then math. Was assigned my first English paper (a short-ish narrative, shouldn’t be too hard). Slightly less math homework and I was able to do most of it in class. Then my freshman seminar class, which was kinda fun but mostly just kinda…blah. I have a feeling it’ll get better though.

TOMORROW…get to sleep in, NO CLASSES! Probably do laundry and as much homework as I can, then I have a meeting with my CSA (read: RA) later in the evening. I might cook dinner, though probably not because I cooked on…um…Wednesday.

All in all, a really awesome first week of college. I DEFINITELY made the right choice. The only major hitch I ran into was that I bought the wrong book for my Psych class, but so did about half the class and we can return it for a full refund. I’ll probably do that tomorrow too. :)

Thanks for the update! I don’t know why, but I love reading about other’s college experiences. I guess they’re all just so diversified, and I feel like on anonymous sites like this they’re a little more unadulterated than they would be in real life. I’m glad you’re having fun in school HGFM! I’m jealous of the no Friday class.

Thanks for the update!!

You’re off to a great start! That’s wonderful you know you made the right choice.

Glad to hear it’s going well. Psych is cool! I only got to take one psych class, but I really enjoyed it. And no Friday classes … wow! I think I had an 8 a.m. Friday class every semester when I was in college.

Are you thinking of joining clubs, Greek rush, etc.?

I’ll definitely be joining Intervarsity Christian. Other than that, I haven’t really thought about anything yet.

HGFM - please keep providing the updates… unfortunately, today many of the CCers who would normally respond are trying to set new CC records on political threads. I can barely keep up with those threads, much less any others.

Just bump it up from time to time. We parents love hearing success stories.

So happy to hear your first week went so well. Free Fridays - great schedule!

^Absolutely. My mom requested that I try to get Fridays off, since if I want to fly home for a weekend, I’d have to leave either Thursday night or Friday morning.

^ Smart move HGFM! We deal with the flight thing too. Also, since we sometimes have limited evening flights out of RDU, ldgirl has found most of her Thursday afternoon professors have been very cooperative about occasionally missing their classes for an early flight. I think they appreciate being informed in advance and have never given her a problem.

Keep us updated~

Sounds like it’s going well so far. Thanks for the update HGFM.

You’re off to a great start!

Okay, time for another update. :)

Things are going BEAUTIFULLY.

I got an 18/20 and 19/20 on my first two Psych quizzes, respectively. All my other classes are going VERY well, and I’ve even kept in touch with quite a few of my high school friends (so far, at least).

No major roommate drama, or drama in the suite, for that matter. I’ve made a solid group of friends, and I’ve even been able to go to Modesto to visit my grandmother already (boy was it nice to see some family)!

Thank you all for your continued support. :)

I am so happy that things are going well for you! Please keep on posting updates.

Glad to hear that you are settling right in!!!

How terrific! Thanks for sharing the good news. They’re very welcome right now.
