Asian born in America / Asian born elsewhere

No different whatsoever in admission process right?

All things being equal, no. Differences might arise if your family was poor vs. rich, you came here when you were 10 and had to overcome lots of obstacles, etc.

I came here when I was 10… what obstacles did you mean?

“I came here when I was 10… what obstacles did you mean?”

he means if you did face obstacles, then that would be considered, and probably be a plus if you’ve succeeded despite the obstacles.

I don’t see any obstacles I faced besides low-income (<10k family of 4) and my language barriers…

So I guess none.

“I don’t see any obstacles I faced besides low-income (<10k family of 4) and my language barriers…So I guess none.”

wait less than 10k in the US on in Asian country??? if this is in US then that seems like a pretty substantial barrier, language too is usually a significant barrier. but if you didn’t find them to be obstacles, good for you man.

In the US.

Well, my dad first came to the US, he settled in Detroit on a college campus.
Then my mom and I came here when I was 10. My sister was born shortly afterwards. My dad was getting his degree at the school and his income was from doing research projects for professors. He earned 13,000 at most.

I don’t know how I work incorporate that into anything though…it’s hard writing about yourself. Of course language was a barrier, but it was an inevitable one, either get past or fail…

if you have a better essay going, do it, but this might make a for a decent topic, if you need help with the essay you can pm me. the problem with adversity essays is they usually sound emphatic and triumphant.

CollegeHopefull1:ur past situation sounds nearly identical to mine! except i came slightly later and I lived for a little bit in France so the language wasn’t too hard (writing wise) lol.
I agree with confidentialcoll. You should write an essay that at least mentions your hardship. I wrote my essay about a person who influenced me the most (my papa), and in it, I briefly touched on our financial difficulty back then. Best of luck to you :)

Thank you!
Confidentialcoll has helped me a lot.

Good luck to you as well

^no prob at all.

Same exact income bracket as you

around 8k - 13k for my family of 3

Will this play a major role anywhere else?

Not really; the admissions office and financial aid office are separate so they don’t know how much your family’s income is when processing your application.
