I recently read an article about ethnic quotas at colleges, and that claremont mckenna only accepted 17% of Asian applicants. Does being asian really hurt my chances that much?

Could you link the article?

Claremont McKenna has a very low OVERALL acceptance rate-- around 17%. It’d be interesting, though, to see the average stats of Asian vs. non-Asian applicants. It could be that, because they get so many highly qualified Asian applicants, it’s a bit harder for an Asian to get in, because they want to maintain diversity.

Same thing happens for girls at lots of liberal arts colleges-- more than 50% of the applicants are girls, but they want to keep the school 50/50, so it’s harder for girls to get in.

Read this (from Princeton University actually!): [The Daily Princetonian - Rejected applicant alleges bias against Asians](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2006/11/13/news/16544.shtml)

Last year CMC accepted 16% of applicants, so if Asians are being accepted at 17% they are actually doing a little better than average.

Does anyone know the QUetsbirdge finalist acceptance rate for last year? and what about ED 2?

According to this WSJ article, Pomona made offers of admission to 65 QB students. I think that 12 were matched last year, so they probably accepted around 50 through RD or ED. But out of the 65 listed, they may also count finalists who were offered admission during the match round, but who matched with other schools that they ranked higher than Pomona.

On the 2011 Class Profile, it shows that 21 QB students actually enrolled.

I’m not sure of the actual statistics for acceptance rates, since they don’t say how many QB applications that they receive or how many they accept in each round.

well in the article i read (i cant find it so i dont know how accurate it is) it was 17 percent asian applicants accepted compared to 22 percent white, and 45 percent hispanic and black

That’s interesting, since in my year and a half at the 5Cs I’ve always had the impression that CMC was the college with the HIGHEST proportion of API students. (And as an Asian-American student myself, I’ve noticed.) But sorry, I have no statistics to cite.
