Varsity Debate team as main extracurricular besides chinese instrument
I know a lot of other things matter such as quality of essays, etc, but based on my stats do I have somewhat of a chance of admission? or will I be mediocre in the pools?
Stats:Great, sat subject tests and ap scores?
ECs: Pretty average, anything else? I don’t see any main focus from you besides debate
Awards/Honors: I’m sure you have some, but maybe nothing significant?
If you don’t have too many ECs that are outstanding or have given you awards / recognition, this is what I think:
Duke: high reach
Cornell: reach
Hopkins: for any STEM (high reach)
Rice: reach
UChicago: high reach
NYU: high match
Stanford: reallly high reach
Keep in mind that there are other factors that may help. However, since you are asian, that will end up working against you.
Much depends upon teacher recommendations, rigor of coursework, class rank & convincing admissions officers that you will be a wanted & needed addition to the incoming class.
Obviously, your strongest chance of admission is to NYU.
Asian female has better chances at admissions to the top schools than an Asian male, but as another poster mentioned, you really don’t have any compelling extracurriculars. Unless you have more extracurriculars that haven’t been mentioned.
Stanford is the highest of reaches for anyone. Chicago is known for its infamous quirky essays and maybe you could leverage your traditional Chinese instrument (erhu, qin, or whatever it is) in an essay.
Extracurriculars: Hospital intern at memorial hermann cancer center, advanced art with high placings at the Houston Rodeo, Team Leader at my part time job that I work 15-20 hours a week. Vice President of said varsity debate team, Vice President of Key Club (volunteering organization)
other honors: ap scholar with distinction, society of women merit award, national merit commended scholar

Since you aren’t a recruited athlete or the founder of a start-up poised for a billion-dollar IPO, Stanford seems unlikely for you.
However, in terms of general stats (and assuming the “typical” ECs of someone in your position), you have a fighting chance with all of the other schools on your list. A great deal will depend on how you utilize your essays to differentiate yourself from other high-achievers.
Question: How have similarly credentialed students at your [presumably Houston-based] high school fared in applying to Rice?
Do not count on " founder of a start-up poised for a billion-dollar IPO" as being ANY tip. More important is how you match what they look for and present that in your app/supp. It’s depth and breadth and awards are not mandatory. Most kids getting into tippy tops don’t have anything near the awards some posters encourage.
And to make that best presentation, you need to know what a top college does value and look for. That’s not just essays. It’s every bit.
