"Asian" last name but Native American

My last name is Lee, which is stereotypically an asian last name, regardless of the fact that it actually originated as an Irish last name. I’m Native American (card carrying, tribal affiliated) so I want to take full advantage of this, but I feel like admissions will think I’m part asian also

(pressed post too early) because I want to take full advantage of my NA blood since I identify with it and obviously not with my non existent “Asian blood”

As long as you prove with your tribal information that you are Native American, I don’t see how having “Lee” as a last name will be any trouble.

I know plenty of "Lee"s who are of purely European ancestry. Don’t worry about this one.

For any institution where the admissions is not purely numbers-based, once you tick the Native American box, your application will zipped over into the NA pile.

Wishing you all the best with this scary process!

Lee always an Asian name?

Just ask:
Christopher Lee
Peggy Lee
Tim Berners-Lee
and Robert E. Lee

People in the business know not to jump to conclusions about someone named Park or Lee. Notwithstanding a Seinfeld episode to the contrary, we do jump to conclusions about “Chang” or “Matsumoto.”

As noted in the FAQ, colleges don’t jump to conclusions about this issue.
