Asian & low test scores... Any chance at an Ivy?

I’m a Chinese girl from the South with low test scores. I really would like to get into an Ivy League school, but I don’t test that well. I feel as if my test scores are pretty much the only thing dragging me down right now. Do have I have a change at getting in?

SAT: (R)670, (M)800, (W)660
ACT: (R)31, (M)35, (W)32, (S)32
SAT II: (Math II)800, (Biology)710, (Chem)660
AP: APUSH-4, Eng. Lang.-4, Cal AB-5, Biology-4
This year (my senior year) I’m taking AP English Literature, AP Calculus BC, and AP Euro. If my school had not added AP Macroeconomics this year, I would have taken every AP class my school offered (I can’t take macro because it’s during calculus).

Cornell - Reach
Dartmouth - Reach
Brown - Reach
Columbia -Higher Reach
UPenn - Higher Reach
Yale - High Reach
Princeton - High Reach
Harvard - High Reach

You have an okay/good chance, especially at schools like Cornell
You can try Ivys like Harvard, but it might be a stretch

That’s what I figured. My parents really wanted me to attend Stanford, so I applied there SCEA and got rejected.
Would my chances at these universities be any better?

Georgetown
Duke
Vanderbilt
Washington University in St. Louis
Notre Dame
University of Michigan
Johns Hopkins

Yes you definitely have good/better chances at all of the universities you just listed, maybe with the exception of WashU

I’m guessing your essays would be pretty killer - you won a writing competition AND got into THREE governors schools… maybe I’m basing my guess off of nothing, but if I am guessing right, you may be getting in at some of those reaches.

I think Cornell would be a high match, not a reach. On your second list, Duke would definitely be hard. What’s your ACT composite?

Wash U’s undergrad’s a joke.

Your test scores are pretty good. You have a 33 ACT, that is good enough for any college.

neethus1: rjacob calculated my super score for the ACT correctly. I’ve gotten a 32 twice, and I just retook the ACT in December, but the scores aren’t out yet. I certainly hope that I’m writing killer essays. Right now, I’m pretty pleased with what I have written. I’m just slightly worried that the university might see my low SAT scores, and throw my application into the reject pile without even reading my essays.

randombetch: Is there a reason you say that? I’ve only heard good things about WashU, but if there’s something specifically bad about the college I’d really like to know.

lol washu is not better than duke or georgetown. Sat’s are not everything, trust me. They will read your essays and look at your application. As long as write amazing essays, you have a chance at all these schools. Not a high chance, but no one really has one at the ivies.

Holy crap. A 1470 is low nowadays?

Lulz at randombetch’s username.

And your score isn’t low enough for them to just “throw you out”.

Don’t waste your time listing “Guitar lessons”. If you have taken it for seven years like you claim, have you played in some type of concert or something of that nature? If not, cross it out. It clogs the application in my opinion.

Hmm ok I see what you mean. I’m descent with the guitar, but I haven’t really excelled. I was just hoping I could put something related to music on my resume.
I guess I’ll put math team-4 yrs (top 5 in every regional contest) instead.

Anyone else want to give me an estimate on whether I can get into those universities?
