So Thank you for making this far,
Main Concerns and suggestions welcomed regarding:
Bad GPA
Doing a major science research even though i am going into business

I am most likely going into Business so here is my list:

Penn
Cornell
Chicago
Virginia
Texas
Wake Forest
UNC
Georgetown
Emory
Vanderbilt

What makes you think you’re an Asian with bad grades?

I have a 2.8 gpa and I’m Asian, don’t be too hard on yourself :D

My gosh~
Those are some excellent EC’s! And the research is quite impressive. Make sure you get a rec letter from that person saying how awesome you are =D
Haha, I’d say yes to Cornell and Emory.

Don’t know about the rest~

i say BAD
its clear you did research solely to get into college
it will be either be disregarded or it will be counted against you
Sucks to your assmar.

asian with bad grades? are you out of your mind?

You don’t HAVE to include it (the research) if you feel that it’s going to put you at a disadvantage. (

Why can’t someone do research too??? Telling them not to list it is just insane. People are too preoccupied with having a “focus” that they don’t realize that they’re afraid to show who they really are.

i dont think i made myself clear enough. I did the research solely because I liked physics and little bit of chemistry. I really could careless if people think I did it just for college, but what I was wondering was, would this hurt my chances going into a school with having an intended major in business or will this make me look a little bit more well-rounded?

Besides the first three and maybe a slight slight reach on virginia you have a good chance at all of those schools. Also, dont be a snobby little show off by saying that your stats suck, they are fine. There are some people around here that are struggling with mediocre stats and hoping to merely GET INTO college. I got a 2.8 GPA in HS because of family problems and a chronic ilness, now im a sophomore at a college that i dont want to be in, and trying as hard as i can to transfer to my dream school. and guess what? IM ASIAN. Your remarks regarding your “low” grades are unnecessary and quite annoying.

bump please

I seriously don’t understand why people are so obsessive about the doing research part. No matter if you did it for college or not, honestly, it’s a great experience, and frankly, I think colleges like it when kids go out of their way in something that they’re interested in.

And powderman, no worries about your grades. I’ve seen tons of Asians with grades worse than yours who got into pretty decent colleges~

bump brahw

umm if this is bad, i’m basically done for. lol.

coudl someone please chance me please?

You could chance yourself on collegedata.com
The posts here unless they’re by someone who really knows about college admissions (and there are quite are few) can either falsely boost confidence or underscore you depending on the person writing them. That said My gpa is slightly higher than yours but my ECs aren’t as great. I spread myself too thin there I think, for my kind of willpower. My guidance counselor puts Cornell as a reach for me. Chances on the others are good. Early action Cornell I’d say because Cornell is one of the only colleges that says it cares about early action applicants more. It has a huge ratio of accepted to early applicants. Or not. It’s up to you.

I might also consider Georgetown a reach. I never understood why people wanted to go there though. Also your volunteer hours are huge. I think you have a reason for not getting the best sat scores for your reaches, but don’t quote me on that.

■■■…THAT IS NOT even close to bad…That transcript can easily help you get to NYU heck sometimes weightlisted. THat is not bad that like a dream transcript.

It really depends on what schools you are looking at. A GPA at 3.6 probably would hold you back from most top 20 schools. It should be fine for many top 50 schools though.

ok your ECs are exceptional, but your grades make it look like you did so much because you are compensating for other things… nevertheless, you seem to have a pretty good grasp on your standing and none of those schools are true “reaches” so dont worry you will be fine

This thread if from 2008. Suffice to say that the poster already knows where he or she got in. Also, the original poster has probably already graduated from college, or is graduating soon.
