Hey im applying this year, im a senior. My GPA is a 3.9 uw … i want to major in mechanical engineering, please tell me how the program is. Is the course load really “hell” and how will it affect my free time? Let me know anything and any tips of possible please.

Also how is the campus and school overall? Dorms, students, ect…
Thank you

Anything? That i can know?

Any engineering program will put a large courseload under your belt, but it’s quite manageable for the first few semesters. It’ll only be “hell” for you if you don’t put in the time and effort for studying in each of your classes, ESPECIALLY if you don’t manage your time wisely.

When you go to college, manage your time wisely. It’s the only way you can get everything you want done, including having a social life, doing well in school, and getting enough sleep inbetween it all (you’ll have to give up online forums and games, etc, to do all of that).

Your free time is w/e you do when you’re not doing anything class-related. It’s only affected by how much time you allot yourself from studying.

The campus is small (it’s a commuter school, so it doesn’t need to be very large) but expanding. ~36,000 students use the campus every week, but only a small portion of them actually live on campus (less than 10% I believe).
The dorms are very nice for a public school! Each room in the freshman dorms occupies two people, and there’s enough space inside it to let you move in all your clothes, etc (the beds can be bunked or raised really high to give you more room, etc).
Dorm life is pretty chill IMO. The issue is that it gets “dead” on the weekend when most people leave to go home (most people you’ll meet will be locals or somewhere in OC and socal). If you don’t party at all (and have no money to go out and eat), then you’ll have little to do during the weekends. Believe me though, there’s ALWAYS some party going on somewhere (whether in someone’s dorm room, or off campus at the fraternity houses).

Anything else that’s specific?

Thanks for the info! Sorry i replied late, i never saw the post.

So the academic part is basically on me and how i manage myself.
Well yeah i plan to live in thr dorms, do you suggest moving out my sophmore year?

Any advice you can give me for college? Learned experience?
