Ask A Current Student!

Yes, they show examples of corridor/suite style dorms.

Chinablue: The career center or CDC as it is called is quite helpful on campus. I know of alot of people who get good jobs out of binghamton it just really depends on what you are going for. Many alums I know now work for PriceWaterHouse Coopers in NYC, a few for Deloitte, MTV, Lockheed Martin, IBM, the UN in manhattan, different hospitals around NYC, and I know many who eventually go on to law school. Right now I am currently working in the city for a District Attorney’s office…It is possible to get a good job out of Binghamton and the school is highly regarded (atleast in NYC) when I show people my resume.

On my tour I was only shown example rooms in CIW. I know many tour guides show their own rooms though. I’m sure if you ask, they’ll be able to show you more examples.

Personally, I suggest going for Mountainview. It has the biggest, and nicest rooms. If you decide you don’t like it, you can always move somewhere else, but it’s impossible to move into Mountainview if you don’t get it as a freshman.

In order of how easy it is to move into: Dickinson, Newing, CiW, Hinman, Mountainview.

Maybe the new building in Newing will affect this though?

on the regular admissions tours i think you usually just get to see the tour guide’s dorm.
at accepted student day they had multiple tours leaving for different dorm communities so there was more of an opportunity to see the different dorms.

I have heard about Binghamton’s great reputation for business management. How are the science programs?

I’m looking for housing next year as a transfer, because I know I’m not getting housing at the University. There’s nothing at University Plaza which would have been my first choice. Any other SAFE NICE places to live? I really don’t want to live in a sketchy neighborhood

I was told yesterday that transfers would be given housing… do you just not want it, or you’re worried about not getting it?

I do want it - i have just heard last year they weren’t given housing. where did you hear this from? I’m worried

The woman in charge of Transfer Admissions told me yesterday that housing would be available… from what I saw on campus, some of the new dorms should be open by then… I hope they have more room. Just get your deposit in ASAP, that’s what I was told by an admissions counselor.

Do you have the number you called her at? I have the general number (607-777-2171). I really want to talk to someone

I talked to her in person at the tour and info session. It was the first question I asked (and I asked it in front of a ton of other people) and she said they would be offering transfers housing.

I just called someone too, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed… but this is all good news!

The woman on the phone seemed hopeful that we’ll get housing also

It is. I really want to live on campus. The dorms look really great for what you pay, and I just wanna get involved with campus life.

For those of you who live there, do you leave campus often? It seemed like, when I visited, that it pretty much has everything you might need there.

Do any kids from OOS establish NY residency?

Do most of the dorms have dressers, or closets? I have lots of clothes… shoes… wintery items that need to come with me.

Also, anyone know which dorms to put as preference if we want to get into the brand new, shiny, not even completed ones?

There are at least some rooms for transfers. The apartment (Hillside) I’ll be living in next semester has two double rooms that were reserved for transfers.

All rooms have dressers and a closet.

Newing will have a new building open next fall. Dickinson will have some new buildings eventually.

I understand that there is no longer an accepted student day. Is there orientation?

for break housing, there’s only one building per dorm that offers it right?
and for mountainview and hinman, how’s the break housing building? and does that mean everone in the building stays there over the break? also, if i want to assign a roommate, do we both have to sign up for break housing if only one of us needs it? thanks.

also, how many breaks are there? (the breaks that the dorms close…)
