First off- not a “u of c” kid, whichever school that is. I’m still in high school- a senior- and I just wanted to post a response on here about the whole sex as an essay thing to show people that not all schools consider sex to be a taboo tapoic for a personal statement.

I’m not sure. He’s not a regular over here, but how can you not realize you’re in the U of C forum? He did not realize though, three times, that the rule of this thread is that you have to “ask a question for the next person to answer.”

My old school had one but I changed schools after my sophomore year.
Yeah, he didn’t ask any question three times in a row. How could he be in the “Ask a question for the next person to answer.” and not realize he’s in the U of C thread. Good work writonthetransom.

Haha, yeah, I didn’t realize that I was in a UChicago board until after my last post. I didn’t even check out where I was, I simply click the little blue arrow that takes me to the most recent post so I can actually talk to people who are currently on. Much better that way…I didn’t have time to respond afterwards though, because I had to leave to meet my uncle for a 35 mile bike ride (my butt is killing me now).

And this “he” you refer to is a she. Long story with the whole robo thing…

And I will now play by the “rules”, though I am not a U of C student at all- it’s not even on my list :)

Considering the fact that I don;t live in Chicago, and have no real desire to (though I have visited), I don’t know any epithets. And yeah, I had to look up what that meant lol.

Do people from U of C actually use words like epithet on a regular basis? Is that a prerequisite for admission? That would make for a seriously strange campus, though I hear you guys are incredibly intellectual- a lot like NYU, only with academics on the brain all the time.

Yeah, that first part of the last paragraph ^ was my question :)

Yea you should definitely know the word epithet by the time you matriculate at any school of U of Cs calibur or you will fail any literature class in which you study older texts (e.g. the odyssey)

Ever heard of the ex-U of C staff member Enrico Fermi?

Have you seen the statue at U of C that commemorates the first sustained nuclear reaction? What do you think of it? My tour guide described it as “a cross between a mushroom cloud and a skull,” which is actually pretty acurate, visually at least.

Yes, I have been seeing that thing for years… When I was little, I used to play inside it, hiding in its crevices, as it is the perfect playplace for little kids. I called it the “Darth Vader Mask.” It really does look like it.

Forever that is how I will see the Nuclear Energy statue.

In Genesis, was the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil planted there by God for Adam and Eve to eat of it? Did God want us to become intelligent and god-like? Or did he want us to remain as children? If he wanted us to become intelligent, why were Adam and Eve punished?

(I didn’t realize “many U of C kids” think that. But, I’d like to answer that question Katharos asked. Katharos- I do not think it is possible to find logic or reason in faith. I believe biblical stories are meant to be read circularly (is that a word?) There are so many questions a person could have…for instance, why was Eve punished and Adam wasn’t? How could Adam be saved by Christ when Christ had not even come to earth yet?)

Well there was the Norte Dame v. UChicago thread. That’s all I’m basing my assumption off of. In fact I had a cousin who got an MBA at UChicago and is now a preacher. Yeah, so like Mad Magazine.
