<p>whats the lowest sat score u’ve heard of for someone get accepted to usc? (specifically arts and sciences) i’ve got everything but the amazing sat score : [ and i realllllyyyy want to go to usc!</p>

<p>I’m probably not even going to rush but I am still a little curious
How much time do they consume and is it hard to get good grades? I’m a transfer so I’m going to be taking upper div classes and now is when my grades count the most imo. How hard would it be to get in a good fraternity without any connections, being a sophomore (although I’m a 3rd year-some credits didn’t transfer) and no model-status looks

<p>Rushing as a sophomore will not be a problem at all. It’s a bit harder as a Junior, but even then, people do it. As for getting into a good house, I’d have to know you better to say. Fraternities don’t focus exclusively or even primarily on looks - they’re gonna care more about personality, sociability, etc. There are a lot of good fraternities at USC, and I’m sure you’ll find one that fits you.</p>
<p>Pledging can be a substantial time commitment, but after the pledge semester, being in a fraternity takes up as much or as little time as you want.</p>
<p>It’s definitely possible to get good grades. I’d point out that the all-fraternity average GPA is higher than the all-men’s average GPA. Most houses also offer a lot of academic support - test banks, tutors, etc. During pledge semester, you’ll just have to be good at managing time and setting priorities.</p>
<p>Obviously, some people will disagree with this, but I frankly don’t see any reason NOT to rush a fraternity. Especially as a transfer, since you won’t have a network of friends from the freshman dorms. For sure check out rush - if you don’t like it, then you don’t have to pledge, but at least you gave it a chance.</p>

This was my main reason for wanting to rush. Its just that I don’t want to mess anything up (even for 1 semester) when my dad is paying this tuition and he just lost his job. But yeah I heard the Greek scene is pretty big on campus; 30% of the student body. hmm</p>
<p>and i also heard ppl get tired of the greek scene their junior/senior year to focus on academics and end up deactivating - is this true at all?</p>
<p>Are most of the rush events free? I’ve heard a lot of fraternities go out and do a whole lot of things, I would like to see how I fit in with a lot of the houses but I’m not looking to blow all my money on it.</p>
<p>kmzizzle- I’m guessing whoever you heard that from was talking about sororities. I think it’s reasonably common for older sorority members to deactivate at some point, but it’s very rare in fraternities. Actually, I don’t know of anyone who has done that in my own house.</p>
<p>qzar- Rush is completely free. The houses will pay for all the events/food/etc.</p>
<p>@stressed: can you break down the “personality types” in the top few frats? </p>
<p>for an athletic, outgoing, but still goal/academic-oriented person, which frats are worth looking at?</p>

<p>Yeah I wish I could be more helpful on that… I know people in a lot of different houses, and I just really don’t want to insult any of them over a public message board, so I’ll try not to chime in on rankings/personalities/reputations…</p>

<p>about the fee… are you sure that’s true? they never charged anything to rush in the past, so if that’s true this year, then it’s definitely new… where’d you hear that from?</p>
<p>im not sure i was reading some facebook groups and stuff, maybe thats for some other greek organization

<p>i’m guessing that was for sororities… ifc has never charged before, and i doubt they would change that… </p>
<p>as for how to rush… you pretty much just show up. they might have a registration form for you to fill out, but they’ll give you everything you need. it’s pretty straightforward and informal. </p>
<p>rush starts on sunday the 22nd with an all-row bbq on mccarthy quad. all the ifc houses will be there, so it’s a good chance to meet guys from each house.</p>

<p>hey i didnt so great on the sat part but everything else is fabulous…i want to be a neurologist but my sat tutor said to go undecided since my sat sux (she didnt put it like that lol but it does) and soo should i go with what she said since the medical field is competitive?</p>
