March 31 and still nothing in the mailbox… Amazing… Sad

does your “accept admissions” status change when you are accepted or do i just have to wait for the mail? I dont want to go to tcnj but i dont want to be rejected either ha

I have been accepted to the TCNJ nursing program and Rutgers (New Brunswick) nursing program and am trying to make a decision between the two of them. Unfortunately, the Rutgers and TCNJ accepted students day both fall on April 5. Since I just found out I was accepted to TCNJ this week, I already made plans to attend the Rutgers one. I would like to visit TCNJ one more time though before making a final decision. Would you recommend visiting the college for another campus tour? Since I cant attend accepted students day is there any way I can schedule a visit to the college and meet with an advisor to have my questions answered?

Hi all! Sorry for the delay in response… It’s been a busy reading-season in the TCNJ Admissions Office. Below I’ve answered all the questions since my last post. Remember, if you have any personal or time sensitive questions, the best way to reach us is by phone at 609.771.2132 Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 – 4:30.

Sandromo - Your son should have received an email from us a couple of weeks ago detailing this process. We will not admit any 7 year medical applicant into their second choice major until we have heard definitively from NJMS that they are no longer being considered for that program. This has changed from 2 years ago (which may have been the post you read).

CC2258 – I’m sure you have heard by now. That email meant exactly what it said, your application has been completed but not yet reviewed.

Bn2ba1 – Our average class size is 21 students. Because this is an average, some classes are larger while others are smaller. Some students, not all, may have a class as large as 50 or so. There are no TA’s or Graduate Assistants - all classes are taught by faculty members.

CFPGuy – We hold off on making any decisions until we have received all applications so that we can make consistent decisions for every student applying to the same major. I am sure by now you have heard a final decision, but no school sure pressure you to make a decision before May 1.

Swimmerr96 – Congratulations! I would encourage you to sign up for a campus tour on our website (admissions.pages.tcnj.edu/visit). We are offering tours through April 30th. When you are on campus, you can pop into the Nursing Department Office to speak with someone there about the specifics of the program. I hope that helps!

I just learned that TCNJ’s admitted student’s day is April 5. If they are not letting us know until today (assuming it does come in the mail today, that is only four days’ notice to make plans to attend the admitted students day! Seriously?

Nothing in the mail today…

I didn’t get a letter as well. I called TCNJ and they said that some of the letters were still processing, so everyone will get their letter tomorrow or Thursday

Still no official acceptance letter, but now my D is getting peppered with emails from the school trying to get her to go to admitted students day on Saturday. (When I say peppered, four or five emails in 24 hours.) My D’s response: “They have taken longer than any other school to get to let me know I was accepted, still have not actually sent me an acceptance letter, and now expect I can get out of work on Saturday on short notice to come to the only admitted student day they have scheduled?” Hard to convince a child to consider a school that does that.

She finally heard from them. Accepted. RIdiculous. Our child already has been to several admitted students days at more competitive colleges and has selected one. “We hold off making decisions until we have every application?” I don’t think so…they accept students in little waves, hoping to build a sense of exclusivity. The bottom line is they are playing games to increase their yield. Nice try guys.

I applied Early Decision, got deferred. I just got waitlisted today. Is there any way that I could improve my chances of getting accepted off the waitlist? I mailed out the paper accepting a spot on the waitlist with a note saying that TCNJ is my top-choice school and I will attend if I am accepted (I’m not sure if that’s the exact wording but I wanted to let the office of admissions know TCNJ is still my top-choice school). Also, when is the latest I will hear about my application status?
Thank you for your time

My daughter is about to decline her offer as we narrow down her options, so hopefully that will help you out! Great school, it just didn’t make her top three.

When are transfer students typically notified of a decision off of the waiting list?

Due, to financial reason I will might not be able to attend TCNJ this year, however I believe if will be eligible for in state next year, does the fact that I was already accepted once play a factor into the admission process?

Hi all - Wait list decisions vary year to year. As soon as we know we have seats available we start making calls to students to pull them from the wait list if they are interested. This typically is after May 1 but could be as late as July. When we close the wait list, we will send an official communication to let everyone know. It is the same process and timeline for freshman and transfer students.
Ironkite9 - The only other thing I would do additionally is send in your mid-year and 3rd quarter grades.

AdmissStaffTCNJ, I am a high school junior preparing my senior schedule. I am in three AP courses this year and was unable to take a third year of a language due to scheduling conflicts. Since I am scheduled to take five AP courses next year, the same problem might arouse. My counselor warned me that colleges might reject my application without at least three years of a language on the transcript. Would this hurt my chances of getting into TCNJ? If so, should I seek an online accredited course or some other means of obtaining the high school credits for a third year of a language over the summer perhaps - or is that unnecessary?

Hi Nsmallze! It’s hard to provide individualized counseling over CC, but generally speaking, we prefer to see someone continue with a fourth year of language in high school because they will be taking a language class at TCNJ. Whenever someone chooses not to take a 3rd or 4th year of a language, we look to evaluate what they did instead. Some things that reflect favorably are when students will double up in a different subject at the honors/AP level; when a student takes courses at a local community college; or when a student participates in an experiential learning program like an internship. For more specific guidance towards your specific situation, I would encourage you to call our office at 609.771.2131.

Has it been decided where honors housing will be? Thank you

When my daughter called she was told honors housing will be in Centennial Hall.

AdmissionStaffTCNJ: Does TCNJ allow an ACT superscore? Also, is the writing section required with the ACT? Apologies if this has been asked already.

Is it okay to just submit an ACT score if you did a lot better on the ACT than the SAT or should I take the SAT again?
