Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

Hello
I have two questions needed to be answered

 1. Will I have a higher chance to get into TCNJ if I submit my application early?
 2. Can I resumbit my SAT & ACT scores that I submit in my early desicion (ex. I submit my SAT & ACT scores from june, however I retook them in sept. and oct., got better scores. So would it be possible to switch my scores)

Thank You

Hello, I am wondering how long it takes to hear back about a transfer application. If I applied in the beginning of August for the spring semester, will I have to wait until the deadline in mid October to find out?

Admissions staff:
Does TCNJ defer admissions decisions or only accept & reject?
Also, if you are rejected by the Business School on early decision, can you re-apply RD to Communications?

Paradullet- For the ACT, we only consider the composite score and you do not need to take the writing section.

Nlenkel – Yes that’s fine! We have no preference between the ACT and the SAT

Powerkingsaig – When we review students for Early Decision, we hold them to the same admissions standards as those students who apply regular decision. You can certainly update your SAT scores but re-submitting them to us. Once we receive them, our computer system will update your application with your best superscore.

Amandaln32 – Yes, Transfer applicants who have applied by the deadline (10/15) for the spring semester will hear sometime in the middle of December.

Spike013 – For those applying early decision, there are 3 possible decisions: Accept, defer or reject. If you are deferred through early decision, you will be considered for the same major in regular decision. Any applicant, however, has the opportunity to change their major through the admission process. You would need to fill out a form after being deferred from one program in early decision to be considered for a different program in regular decision. If you are denied through early decision, you can not apply for regular decision in that same year. You would have to wait a year and apply to start the following fall.

What are your requirements for a student to be admitted into your prestigious Pre-Med program?

<a href=“TCNJ | The College of New Jersey”>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey;

Question: What are the MINIMUM academic eligibility requirements to apply for admission to the TCNJ 7-Year Medical Program?

Answer: The following are the MINIMUM academic eligibility requirements to apply:

Standardized Test Scores: a minimum of 1480 in critical reading and math on ONE TEST DATE of the SAT I. No exceptions will be made. Scores on ACT exams may NOT substitute for the SAT I examination per the policy of NJMS. (The incoming class of 2011 had an average SAT I score of 1500+, and average SAT II scores of 773.)
High School academic achievements: Applicants must be in the top 5% of their class, and/or have an unweighted G.P.A. of 4.5 or 95% depending on how the school evaluates achievement. You should have participated in school, community or other activities that demonstrate service and leadership. You should also have had good exposure to medicine and/or healthcare. While SAT II and AP tests are optional, many of our accepted students have taken many of these examinations.

Does the business school have different/higher freshman admission requirements than other schools within the university?

I am a senior and have a 3.9 gpa and around a 3.4 unweighted gpa. My SAT score is 1790 (610M/580CR/600W) and I was told that upon acceptance I would play for the tennis team. The coach said he would put me down as a recruit when I apply. And I wish to do Economics at TCNJ what are my chances of getting in. I’m in all honors and AP classes and got a 3 on the AP Chemistry exam.

Does the same requirement for three to four semesters of a foreign language apply to those completing a community college degree and transferring upon receiving the associates degree? If they are passed 64 credits but only have one year of foreign language can they make it up at tcnj?

Hello,
If we apply Early Decision II in January 1st, can we still apply RD to other schools?
Also, is RD for TCNJ rolling?

Hello,

I applied as transfer student to TCNJ nursing program for Spring 2015 and got a letter that I am on their wait list which I mailed back but when do does TCNJ mail all their decision letters for all the wait listed students like myself?

I submitted my application for regular decision today, however I have not given my counselor my transcript release form yet.
I will give it to her on monday, which means she will send it within the 10 days after that.
I know on the website that it says that all credentials except the application could be sent in by March 1st, but I am just making sure.
Will my application still be considered if my transcript gets there within the next couple of weeks? Thanks.

When is the earliest transfer students could hear about admissions? I know the latest is suppose to be April 1st.

For out-of-state students looking for scholarship money, would it help at this point to send a resume and/or answer the additional questions? Or did I see that those questions were only intended to help with determining acceptance?

Question: can you please post (or provide a link to) some stats showing what percentage of ED applicants are offered merit based scholarships and what the average amount is?

I read on TCNJ’s website that all accepted freshmen applicants are given the same consideration for merit aid regardless of whether they apply ED I, ED II or GA. But I’ve looked on the TCNJ website, CC and the CDS and could not find any statistics on the subject. The Common Data Set shows the total number of students who received non-need based aid, but it doesn’t break out how that aid was distributed among ED or GA.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. My daughter is seriously considering applying ED in the fall and we would like to see that she has an equal chance at merit aid by applying ED. Thank you.

One data point: My DD applied ED and got a merit scholarship.

Also if a college is known for not giving ED students scholarships, then who would apply ED?

@bopper, that’s my point actually. I’d like to know the reality of merit scholarships for ED applicants in order to decide if ED is the right way to go.

Glad to hear it was a reality for your DD!

Recently I’ve been receiving calls from TCNJ at around 7:00 pm, but out of the three times they’ve called in the past two weeks, I haven’t been able to pick up. I tried calling back and it brought me to an automated message. I’ve already declined my offer of admission and filled out the survey, so I’m curious as to why I’m getting calls from them.

Enrollment management seems very unfair. Seriously, why LOCK a young kid into a major or discipline they do not
enjoy . You force kids to make choices before theyve had any real experience. simply not fair AT ALL. and especially not for $30,000.
