Ask an alum

I rediscovered these forums recently. I’m a Double Domer (2010 BA/2013 JD) and still live in the area. Feel free to ask me anything about ND/South Bend/etc.

Welcome back and thank you for volunteering your knowledge and experience!

Hi! Thank you for being willing to answer some questions!

We are planning to visit ND in October and may try to time it so we can do a campus tour and go to a football game (I’m guessing they don’t do tours on Saturdays, so a tour Friday/game on Saturday).

A few questions for you:

  1. Is it hard to get tickets to a home game for visitors?

  2. I heard there is a hotel on campus. Would you recommend it?

  3. Anything you think is a must see while at ND/South Bend? Any restaurant recommendations?

We are excited to visit ND—I think my son would really like it!

October is a great time to come to campus!

  1. How hard it is to get tickets depends on the opponent and how good we are. Your best bet this year would be the NCSU game on October 11. Sure you could get something reasonable in the secondary market even though we will be very good.

  2. The Morris Inn is beautiful but if you don’t already have a room for this fall it’s out of the question.

  3. Depends on what you’re looking for with respect to sightseeing. We’ve got two art museums on campus that are worth visiting. The Studebaker Museum is cool if you’re into that.

If you want to stay close to campus I enjoy Bru Burger at Eddy Street Commons. Legends on campus has a cool atmosphere if you want that…food has been upgraded but still probably not worth the price. Taphouse on the Edge also has a good Notre Dame vibe just off campus.

My favorite restaurants in the area are both in Mishawaka: for a steakhouse, Corndance, and for a brewery, Evil Czech. I’d especially recommended the “Hangover Brunch,” a small plates buffet, at Evil Czech, starts at 11 Saturday and 10 Sunday.

If you want to go downtown, Cafe Navarre is good. I wouldn’t pay for LaSalle Grill…if you want steak, Corndance is better.
