Ask Me Anything

Well I took a loan out and it was more than what I needed for my tuition. I was hoping I could use that money for books and whatnot.

The money from a secured loan goes directly to the university. Any overage is applied to your bursar’s account, unless and until you request that it be returned to the lender (usually the bank, or the Feds). You can’t cash out the difference, but there might be a way to buy your books at the PSU HUB bookstore and have that billed to your student account. I would check first before you get in line!

Do you know if the gyms get wifi? :)

There’s campus-wide wifi access that should be able to be used in the gyms, can’t say for a fact though

This is incorrect - student aid is expressly made available for uses other than tuition, including but not limited to books, academic materials, and living expenses while a student. To this end, if the sum of payments and financial aid exceeds the total of tuition and fees then the remainder will be deposited in an account of the student’s choice, so that they can use the funds as they see fit.

The downside is that you have to wait 2 weeks to get the money, a quirk of PSU.

Which residence halls are better for freshmen: East or North?

There are a ton of different pros and cons to each area. I would suggest Pollock (a kind of combination between both) and visiting again while paying closer attention to the halls themselves.

On the subject of dorms…

What is move-in day like? How hectic is it?

I’m planning on arriving pretty early…check-in starts at 9am, I plan on being there at around 9:30-10.

Also, since only my dad is going to be there, how do we get things into my room. I know for sure that I can’t carry all that I’m bringing alone while my dad is parking.

Thanks in advance :D

Move-in day is very hectic, but the welcome week volunteers and residence hall staff are really helpful and keep things moving. If you’re really concerned, you can move-in a day early for $20. Don’t worry about being able to move in your stuff! When you pull up to your hall’s loading dock, there are carts that you check out and use to load up all of your stuff. If you need more help, there are lots of people like welcome week volunteers and your RA to carry things.
