Does my schedule seem manageable for a freshman? Math 53 Multivariable (LD Req for my major), French R1A (R&C requirement p. 1), Nutritional Sciences 10 (Biological Sciences Breadth Requirement), History C187 (History Breadth Requirement): 15 total units, all 4 courses are filling some kind of requirement
Hey guys! I’m having a bit of a dilemma in deciding between attending Summer Bridge for the summer or doing an internship at my local clinic. To give a little background, I am admitted to Berkeley for Molecular and Cell Biology, possibly planning to go into the Public Health/Pre-med route. I know that by attending Summer Bridge, I’ll have access to a network of faculty and advisors who will help me transition into the Berkeley curriculum and environment, I’ll be able to knock off 9 units, and I’ll take “beginners” classes that will provide me a solid foundation for upcoming Berkeley classes. However, it is my “last summer of freedom” and I feel like gaining experience from interning at a local clinic will help me later in my career path. Can anyone provide suggestions?
“I am admitted to Berkeley for Molecular and Cell Biology” - actually, you are admitted as undeclared in the College of Letters and Sciences. You don’t declare a major until around the end of sophomore yr.
I would suggest interning in anything medical later, in a year or two, when you have a better idea of what you want to do and more knowledge than an incoming freshman. Med school adcoms won’t really care that you shadowed a doctor at a clinic before freshmen year (but do it if you’re really interested in it, not because it will help you later, because it won’t really do that). If you want your “last summer of freedom”, then take the summer off. You’ll be grinding away soon enough if you go the MCB route.
Hi, I am a transfer student from a CC. I just sir’d couple days ago and the payment tab is no where to be found, what should I do? Also, I have yet receive any emails for first semester planning guide and it is due 5/25, should I call someone to fix it? Thanks!
Where are the resources. What is a first semester planning guide? How do I SIR? I pressed the button and nothing happened? How do I pay for classes? Where do I do it? I know nothing, where do you guys get your info from?
URGENT: class enrollment for freshman opens up tomorrow, but can freshman enroll before going to CalSo??? Also am I supposed to put classes in my shopping cart by now? There is so little information on when freshman enroll in classes. I am afraid of missing out on classes because I didn’t know when to enroll!
Thanks
Hi! I’m currently a sophomore in high school. I’m looking to go into business for my major. So far, my cumulative gpa is a 4.0556 (weighted), 4.0 (unweighted) (4.0 freshman year, 4.1 first semester sophomore year). So far in my sophomore year, I have gotten all As but my honors bio grade for second semester is very borderline right now (90.1%), and I’m very worried- I have never received a b. I am very interested in the following schools and I would appreciate feedback on which are possible with the track I’m on now. (what if I got a b in bio even though planning on business major?). Do I have a chance to get into Cal Berkeley? Thanks!!
- California Berkeley
- UCLA
- University of Michigan (I get in-state tuition here)
- Indiana

I don’t understand the financial aid here. I got the blue and gold opportunity plan. I qualify for the Cal grant. But on my calnet page it says pel grant and uc transfer scholarship for a total of about 15,000. Each of those say that it “Will not disburse”. What does that mean? Does that mean I am not getting the award? If I get the award and the calgrant I can live on campus next year instead of commuting. This is what it says: “This is a conditional award and will not disburse to your student account. It is only an estimate of your aid eligibility and is subject to change. Please review your Financial Aid Tasks and Communications for additional information required to complete your financial aid file.”
I got the same question, and called L&S advising. Basically, if you are going to CalSo, you will be talking to an advisor, and register classes then and there; if you’re not, they will assign a date, which is NOT June 2nd, and you can register classes on that date. Otherwise, you can’t register and there’s a “hold” if you check your CalCenter.
idk why do they do it that way though…
Just use the average OOS admit statistics to gauge whether you will have a shot. For example, the average unweighted GPA for OOS admits was 3.94. The average ACT score for OOS admits was 34 and the average SAT was 2237. If you have numbers around this area as well as ECs that show leadership and passion, you should be fine. Just keep in mind that Michigan is also a great school, and since you are in-state, it would be significantly cheaper than going to UC Berkeley or UCLA, where you would have to pay an additional OOS tuition.
(Also, this probably isn’t the best place to post a “chance,” simply because it is not a question about Berkeley itself)
What is the difference between a campus residence hall and an on campus apartment?
Do rooms come with full-length mirrors? I am going to be living in a Unit 1 double mini-suite.
Has anyone taken the online class intro to organic chemistry?
unit 1 FTW
Do what makes your comfortable and dont worry about getting a specific head start. You have done all you can to earn credits and get hard starts in college. Both have pros to them that can be good.
How hard would it be to double major in the humanities at Cal?
I’m currently a community college student interested in the American Studies and English major programs at Cal. I’m applying as an English major for fall 2017 but I will have completed major requirements for American Studies and English by spring 2017. There are a lot of overlapping upper-division American lit classes at Cal that satisfy requirements for both majors but I’m wondering if, even then, I’m being overly ambitious.
Hello!
Berkeley said on the website that all applicants applying for L&S are considered undeclared, while the majors they choose are only “indicative”. I am not pretty sure. Does it mean that Computer Science BA, Math, and Undeclared under L&S are equally possible? Is Computer Science BA a safest choice for a prospective computer student? (cross out some approaches like applying for College of Natural Resources first and then transfer)
nvm i think this thread is dead sorry
Hello I am trying to take math 54 this semester with James Sethian and it says the class is in the Pauley Ballroom. Is this accurate? Because how can that room fit 500+ students? Thanks
Eureka–yes.
Wilson–trust me, it does lol. My class of 700 met there.
