Do you know what type of financial packages are common? It looks like the best scholarship is $30,000 a year but that means it is still $38,000 a year. My daughter is really interested in this college but it seems it is out of our price range. Also, how common is drinking? Would she feel out of place if she doesn’t want to drink?
Thank you

@JIllB612 My suggestion is to “run the numbers”. Wooster is one of the more generous schools of its kind and a typical package will usually consist of a mix of grants, loans, work study, and scholarships.

@JIllB612 Not sure where your numbers came from as the highest merit scholarships for this year are $37K and tuition, fees, room and board are $64,250 (the delta being $27,250). This, of course, does not include any potential need-based aid if applicable.

Regarding drinking…Wooster is not a “party” school. Of course drinking occurs…it’s college. But it is not a place where drinking and partying dominate the social scene. Greek life kind of plays in the background, as there are no national fraternities or sororities but rather local “sections” and “clubs”. Someone for whom drinking is not a priority would have no issue fitting in.

Question regarding travel: How easy is it to get to Cleveland or Columbus? Does COW have any shuttles or anything like that?

@momamh, when we visited Wooster we flew to Cleveland and it was an easy 55 minute drive to Wooster. It’s closer than Columbus, and we happen to have direct flights only to Cleveland. I believe there are shuttles at least before breaks (I saw it somewhere — maybe Instagram). Hopefully one of the students has better info.

Yes, there are shuttles during break. I would definitely suggest flying in/out of Cleveland. C-bus Airport is going to be closer to 2 hours away. Akron/Canton Airport is also about 45-55 min, but it’s tiny. You might get lucky though, so it’s worth a quick online search.

@CTMom21 and @ChaosParent23 Thank you! I was looking for shuttle info on the site and missed it. Good to know!

Considering visiting Wooster but we are out of state and just kind of concerned about how far the airport is and transportation to and from the airport. School shuttle is just once a day which could be very challenging to coordinate with flight times. I imagine a cab ride has got to be really pricey. Any feedback on this? Could be a deal breaker for us! Thanks!

Wooster has a greyhound bus stop.

Hello. My son was thrilled to be accepted with generous academic merit as well as an acting scholarship.

He loves acting and theater and has always planned to be involved as an EC at minimum. He is considering theater arts as a major , or part of a double major or minor, but is also interested in everything from polisci and philosophy to environmental sciences too. Thus his affinity for LACs.

Similarly, in regard to ECs, he absolutely has loved being a part of theater and the arts since 4th grade, and as I mentioned definitely plans to continue, but he also likes sports, community service, outdoor hiking/backpacking/biking, camping and plans to be involved in intramural sports.

In order to keep his acting scholarship, Wooster does have some reasonable requirements in terms of a minumum number of hours dedicated to involvement in theater. So , we were wondering how the theater/arts life is on campus? Do other students attend the shows and support them? What is the reputation of the Theater Arts/acting major at the College of Wooster?

When you spend a lot of time together , whether producing plays, playing sports, volunteering or whatever the interest, it is natural to end up hanging more with that group. Do theater arts kids tend to only hang out only together or do they typically branch out? I guess I am asking if Wooster tends to be 'cliqueish?" In HS my son has been active in so many things, including student government, intramurals, newspaper, and choir, as well as improv and theater, and has friends in every clique. H

Reading over this post, if he does attend The College of Wooster, I am so grateful for APEX , as my son will really need help organizing his time!! lol!

Thank you for any insight you have on the life of a student involved in theater, possibly a major at some point, at Wooster.

Here’s a question for any current students and parents who may be reading. How do you feel that the College’s administration has handled the Covid-19 situation in terms of communication and information flow? Our contact with the College to date (admissions (S is a 2021), coaches) has been very positive, and the open house we attended was extremely well organized. Do you feel like the current changes and uncertainty are being handled well? I know it’s a situation in flux but it’s important to me how effectively a school communicates changes and updates. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I think the College has been great in this situation. And that response comes five minutes after receiving the email that they have canceled for the rest of the year. My husband is the Provost of a small liberal arts school so I’m very familiar with all of the angst involved for administrators right now. We also live on a college campus. So some parents might have a different perspective but I think they’ve been marvelous- all of the emails have been clear and detailed. They can’t account for the parents who don’t read thoroughly and fly off the handle!

Thank you, @twogirls2020. My S currently attends boarding school and so is in a similar situation — definitely a difficult time to be a college administrator or school head! Best wishes to you all for the remainder of the year.

Hi! I will be attending Wooster this fall and was wondering if anybody knew the cost of joining a sorority.? Also, what is Wooster’s room check policy?
