Was your email incredibly positive sounding? I can’t imagine a rejection after that email “tomorrow we welcome future Scots”.
I think everyone got the same email.
Makes sense. Oberlin’s email was just so neutral and College of Wooster’s seemed enthusiastic.
D26 was admitted with a 75% tuition scholarship and is in the running for a full-tuition scholarship! What a great option!
For posterity: She had a 4.0UW, top rigor, 1550 and 35, strong extracurriculars but nothing earth-shattering, and good essays and what I’m assuming are good recommendations. She has shown a lot of interest and did an interview.

A proud Wooster parent here…My son (Junior now) has found it to be an amazing place with a lot of opportunities. Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry are quite well funded and offer substantial number of research, teaching assistant, lab assistant opportunities. Fellowships for external internships are available. Department funding for presenting papers/posters in conferences is available as well. Other departments also may have funding, I am just not aware about them. For someone wanting to do Graduate studies I can’t imagine a better place for an undergraduate student. Things have worked out better than what we expected at least so far…fingers crossed for the remaining duration.

Second proud College of Wooster parent posting. My daughter is also a junior. I posted previously in her freshman year. I was thrilled with the school at that time. Since that time my esteem for the College of Wooster has only grown by leaps and bounds.
I will try to keep my praise for the school down to a few dozen paragraphs. It will be hard though. There is so much to say and be grateful and thankful for.
The professors and the administration up through the Dean level is off the charts phenomenal. It is a microcosm of pure excellence plunked down in a little town in the middle of Ohio. Your student will be the lucky beneficiary of this level of excellence and commitment to rigorous academic pursuits. The College of Wooster holds the line on the acquisition of advanced learning and encourages your student to bring themselves up to the level required for true learning to take place, to develop a real understanding of the subjects they are studying. I see no grade inflation You work for everything you earn and they encourage you to shoot for the moon. They expect it of you, and soon, very soon you start expecting it of yourself.
If your student has any intrinsic motivation to achieve anything whether that be academic, extracurricular, etc. these goals not only can be achieved at the College of Wooster but will be encouraged by professors and administration alike. If your student brings a spark the faculty and staff will help them fan it into a three alarm fire. Students with a solid grasp of responsibility showing interest in pursuing a goal will be mentored, supported, and encouraged as if you yourself were right there cheering your student along. As a single parent, I will be eternally grateful for the care and effort the faculty and administration have shown my daughter. Having capable, knowledgeable, educated adults on your side pointing you in the right direction, and none of these people are your mother, has helped my daughter see how she can make some of her dreams a reality.
My daughter will be graduating in 4 years having completed a double major as well as spending an entire semester studying abroad. I challenge you to find any public university in the country where this is a possibility that doesn’t involve overloading schedules or many classes in the summer.
As her parent with a professional doctorate, I feel competent to assess her growing knowledge in her first major Statistics and Data Science. As she talks to me about ANOVA tests and AUC curves I see how much she has learned and a 10 minute conversation with her leaves me breathless as it is as if I am speaking to a colleague her technical vocabulary and understanding of the statistics is communicated using such professional language we might as well be in a boardroom. It gives me chills to hear my daughter speak so knowledgeably about the mathematics behind her degree.
Originally I believed my daughter would be over the tiny town of Wooster by the time she made it to her third year. Somehow that has not been the case. I think she has fallen in love with the downtown which is filled with places she loves like the used bookstore, the pho restaurant, the little place where she gets the occasional boba drink, and Drugmart. While many SLACs are located in rural locations let me tell you they are not all created equal. Wooster has a vibrant and walkable downtown of many streets filled with restaurants, coffee shops, stores, a theater, a yoga place, etc. And when you want something different the free school shuttle will take you to the other busy area of town with many strip malls that have many other options for your student. I would actually equate the amount of businesses in Wooster to a mid-sized suburban town.
Even after all this time, I am really flummoxed why The College of Wooster is not ranked higher. Maybe it is because of its Midwest location? Maybe it doesn’t try to play the rankings games that other SLACs participate in to drive up their selectivity? I’m just so glad that we found this amazing amazing college filled with even more amazing people. Is everything perfect here? No of course not. But cinder block walls in the dorm, or the cafeteria style food is personally I think a rite of passage all college students should experience. But the important things, the things that are really of value for college students, yes those things are really exceptional. The college has a saying, “Independent minds, working together” and I love it but I think they should revise it, “Independent minds, working together, in the pursuit of academic excellence and wisdom.” Fantastic school!!!

Completely echo everything the OP has said. Also in terms of a parent being a professional doctorate it matches with mine and my son’s situation as well. Absolutely phenomenal place and if you do well in the department and show intent you get research, funding and external internship opportunities by heaps. My son did sophomore internship in Australia and this summer he will be interning at MIT in drug design program. For an international student this is almost unheard of in any large school for sure. Great to hear your experience with College of Wooster has been so positive. Your (and @Andygp ) observations and insights have been an interesting read. I’ve always been impressed with the students I’ve met from C of Wooster and they seem academically motivated, engaged and true individuals. CC tends to focus on NESCAC’s and forget that there are many other SLACs that are absolutely fantastic and provide many opportunities for their students.
I especially love this. We’ve found this to be true also ( different SLAC) and mark of a great undergraduate experience. Thanks for sharing.
