Asking about rec letters

Hi, I intend to apply to top BSs in USA, and they require rec letters from my current math and english teachers, the problem is they don’t know me so well tahn can write recs for me, so I want to ask if I should take math and english recs from my previous teachers in gr6 and gr7?
Thank you

why dont you ask the schools you are applying to? Everyone is in the same situation (applying in Fall/Winter for the next year). When we applied all schools wanted current teachers

You are not the same person as you were 2 years ago. Your 6th/7th grade teachers cannot speak to your current level of maturity. While you can ask the schools if you can use past teachers, you are unlikely to get a positive response.

Will the school contact my secondary school to check if that is my previous teacher or current teacher? Also, my math teacher is in maternity leave so I asked Chatham hall and that is the only school inmp my list school accepts rec letter form previous teacher

You are required to get it from your current teachers even if they don’t know you well. Don’t worry, the rec forms have areas where they can just say “I haven’t known them long enough,” and such. You can have your former teachers fill out personal recommendations though!

Whether they do or not is immaterial. I believe that the rec header states “current teacher” so any past teacher will probably refuse on that basis. Additionally, your transcript may list the names of your current teachers.

But my math teacher is on maternity leave, and the new teacher has just taught for a few days

Nothing you can do about that.

You’ve asked the schools and they basically all told you that they want the current teacher. Period. End of story. One thing about schools and applications: They like it when students follow directions, and tend to be less enthralled when they don’t. In a few years, you will find that to be the case for college applications as well.

You current teacher can certainly say that she’s a maternity leave fill-in and does not know you well, and every school will understand that. As mentioned above, you can get a past math teacher to send in a personal rec, which can speak to your math skills. I think that’s your best option.
