Asking for more funding

I was recently admitted to Northeastern’s MA program and offered a 50% tuition remission scholarship. I was also accepted to the University of Maryland’s program and offered no funding outright (with an invitation to apply for GAships though it isn’t guaranteed). I’m planning on contacting Maryland to see if they could potentially match what Northeastern is offering, but should I contact the financial aid office or the graduate program director? Is it even worth it to call Maryland if they stated in the acceptance letter that they cannot offering funding to MA students?

Thank you in advance!

There is absolutely no harm in asking, the program director would be the one to talk to.

If Maryland says in their letter that they cannot offer funding to MA students, then I don’t think there’s any point in contacting them. They’ve already said they can’t offer funding, so why would calling them and asking change that? And even if they were to come up, matching 50% remission is unlikely.

But if you are determined to ask, then the graduate program director would be the one to ask.
