Asking for teacher recs last year --> actually hurtful?

I was enrolled in this scholarship-finding program for a short period of time and at one point I had to ask for teacher recs, and I did, and received a rec (dated) from my teacher. He used the same rec this year for college apps. Would it be detrimental for that date (June 2004) to remain on the rec itself as opposed to something more recent like November even though I dropped out of that program early (for it was fairly useless/waste of money).

In short, is the date of a rec important?
