Well, the easiest thing to do would be to major in computer science, where jobs are plentiful, and write as an avocation, since it’s much harder to support yourself as a writer. However, there are some careers that combine computer science with a humanities orientation: technical writing, library/information science (an increasingly high-tech field), some kinds of advertising and web design. Computers are also increasingly used in upper-level humanities research, but for that you need a PhD in English + a lot of technical expertise, so the educational requirements are daunting and jobs are few and far between.

Agree with jingle. If none of those fields that combine the two appeal to you, then just do computer science and write in your spare time as a hobby. If you catch a break you can become a full-time writer and makes computers your hobby.
